The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS is seeking to recruit a Senior Advocacy Officer to basically provide substantive technical support to Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS) in relation to advocacy and communication activities. The incumbent will be based in Dar es Salaam, working under the overall guidance and supervision of the Director of Advocacy and Information.

Some of the duties and responsibilities:
Advise and assist the Director of Advocacy and Communication in the development and implementation of HIV/AIDS advocacy strategies and campaigns, selecting key messages, identifying media, public events/fora and other channels for conveying the messages taking into account the situation/topic and target audiences.
Formulated plans/strategies for the benefit of TACAIDS, the department, public information and regional offices on a range of advocacy and communication issues.
Work with relevant partners/actors to initiate strategic partnerships and networks to solicit support for and maximize the impact of the advocacy campaigns and related public information efforts
Prepare a diverse range of information and communication products in support of major HIV/AIDS campaign initiatives, and oversee campaign input into TACAIDS Website; and provide backstopping, as required for the other functions of the department related to media and external relations.
Organize meetings with religious and political leaders as the best way of confirming their commitment to help fight the epidemic. Represent TACAIDS to relevant stakeholders, partners, local government workshops, conferences and meetings as may be assigned.
Provide/support to supervision of the technical aspect of the technical staff.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
A Master’s Degree from a recognized university preferably in the fields of Information, Communication, Advocacy, Public Health Education or other related field.
5-7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in advocacy, communications, and/or health education, including working experience at the national level dealing with advocacy and communication. Experience in developing advocacy and communication plans, would be an added advantage. Strong communications and writing skills.
Fully proficient computer skills and knowledge of relevant software and applications, demonstrated skills in the formulation, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of complex result-oriented programmes, excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
Type of Contract: Service Contract. Period: One year initially Salary Level: SB 5
