The country is small, but it is one of the richest country in the world with a population of about four million people, in which approximately one million are foreigners who work in the country.
It comprises of nine islands which are mainly oil rich deserts. Its main income is backed by the sixth-largest oil reserve in the world. It exports more than sixty percent of its oil to Asia. It has crude oil reserves of about 102 billion barrels. Despite its dependence on oil, its government saves at least ten percent of government revenue annually in the Fund for Future Generations.
It used to be under the governance of Britain until the 19th of June, 1961. Since then, it has made so much development that it is now recognized for its development and Arab culture. The country has no railway, but an impeccable road transport system. It has no fertile land for agriculture.
There is no personal income tax system in the country either from salary or income from business activities. In this country, 1.5 liters of petrol is valued at 0.06 Kuwaiti Dinar while 1.5 liters of water is valued at 0.16 Kuwaiti Dinar, making water more expensive than petrol.
Though it is an Arab country, women are allowed to vote and run elections. Instead of the Sharia Law which other Arab countries follows, it chose the civil law system. It is known for its greater freedom of expression than anywhere in the Arab world.
