International power developer, Symbion Power, has been announced as the exclusive Diamond sponsor of iPAD Rwanda Power and Infrastructure Investment Forum scheduled to take place on 5th and 6th November at Kigali Serena Hotel. writes SAM OKWAKOL.

"Symbion Power is committed to being a long-term partner in delivering electricity to Rwanda and help reduce risks in Lake Kivu by safely extracting the methane gas that continues to build up in its depth and use it to generate more power." said Paul Hinks, Chief Executive Officer, Symbion Power, in a recent press statement.

The iPAD Rwanda Power & Infrastructure Investment Forum is organized by Spintelligent, a leading Cape Town based trade exhibition and conference organizer, and the African office of Clarion Events Ltd, based in the UK.

Organizers said the event will once again welcome more than 250 industry experts and stakeholders as participants of iPAD Rwanda Power & Infrastructure Investment Forum 2015.

The event offers a platform for private investors, project developers, consultants, technology and solution providers and financiers looking for opportunities in Rwanda's energy, infrastructure and mining sectors to share experiences, knowledge and make business connection.

Organizers said the second edition of iPAD Rwanda Power and Infrastructure Investment Forum enjoys high level of support from the government of Kigali and other parastatals.

The Forum will provide a meeting platform for investors, project developers, finance houses and multilateral investors, construction and planning companies as well as technology providers from Rwanda, the region and from the rest of the world to demonstrate the proactive nature of Rwanda to develop the sector efficiently and effectively.

Hinks said "Symbion is currently finalizing the Power Purchase and Concession Agreements with the government of Rwanda. We hope to soon sign these key contracts with the government which will enable us to then begin the next phase of project implementation."

He said just like any project there will always be unexpected challenges that Symbion is likely to face in Lake Kivu.

"Although much of the technology that will be used is standard in the gas and power industries, the methane resource in Lake Kivu is in itself unique.

"The lake also has sensitive environmental considerations, and Symbion is taking great care and attention to ensure our design complies with the Lake Management Prescriptions. Safety is always at the forefront of our decision making process." Hinks said.

Organizers said this forum has an important role in the transformation of Rwanda into a dynamic global hub for business, investment, and innovation.
