President William Ruto and Siaya Governor James Orengo have pledged to put aside political differences and work together to accelerate development in the Nyanza region.

The commitment came during a high-level meeting that brought together national and regional leaders to discuss key priorities affecting counties in Nyanza, including Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homa Bay.

President Ruto emphasized the need for unity, stating that political divisions should not hinder development. He noted that collaboration between leaders is essential to unlocking economic opportunities and ensuring equitable distribution of national resources.

Governor Orengo, who has previously been a vocal critic of the government, echoed the sentiment, signaling a shift toward cooperation in addressing the region’s development needs.

The discussions focused heavily on infrastructure projects, healthcare, and economic initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods. Leaders from the region presented a list of priority projects, calling for clear timelines, adequate funding, and stronger oversight to ensure implementation.

Among the key issues raised were road networks critical for trade, expansion of healthcare facilities, and investments in sectors such as the blue economy and industrial development.

The meeting forms part of President Ruto’s broader engagement in Nyanza, where he has been pushing a development-first agenda aimed at fostering inclusivity and bridging historical political divides.

The renewed cooperation between national and regional leadership is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of development in Nyanza, with hopes that unity will translate into tangible progress for residents.
