Tension erupted in Lwengo District after residents destroyed barriers that had been erected on a community access road, protesting what they described as an unlawful blockage of a route they have relied on for decades.
The angry residents accuse former Lwengo District Vice Chairperson, Mr. Deus Kiberu, of orchestrating the closure of the road following his unsuccessful bid for the district chairmanship.
According to the affected residents, the disputed pathway has served the community for nearly 40 years, providing vital access to farmlands, homes, water sources, and a nearby health facility.
In a show of defiance, residents gathered and dismantled the barriers, insisting that the road is a public access route that should remain open for community use.
