Public servants have been briefed on pension reforms introduced under the Public Service Pensions Act, 2025, which establishes a contributory pension scheme for eligible employees.
Under the new arrangement, employees will contribute 5% of their salary, while Government will contribute 10%, bringing the total contribution to 15%.
The scheme will be mandatory for public servants below 55 years, while those aged 55 and above can choose to remain under the existing system or join the new scheme. Benefits already earned under the current system will be protected.
The reforms also provide for a minimum pension, investment of contributions and continued benefits for eligible members who leave public service under specified conditions.
Public servants have been urged to update their biodata and employment records ahead of registration and sensitisation exercises.
