A group of Special Police Constables (SPCs) who served as polling constables during Uganda's 2026 General Election on Friday stormed Electoral Commission offices in Ibanda District, demanding payment of allowances they claim have remained unpaid for four months.
The aggrieved officers gathered at the district Electoral Commission offices, expressing frustration over what they described as repeated delays in receiving compensation for services rendered during the election period.
According to the SPCs, they fulfilled their duties at various polling stations across the district but have yet to receive the allowances promised to them after the exercise.
Sources at the scene reported that access to the office of the Returning Officer was restricted during the standoff, with both police personnel and journalists allegedly denied entry.
The incident adds to growing concerns over delayed payments to personnel who participated in the administration and security of the 2026 General Election, with affected officers warning that prolonged delays could undermine morale among temporary election workers.
