Paul Biya resigns as President of Cameroon

False rumours that the long serving President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, who has been in power for 33 long years and is 82 years old, had resigned spread on the Internet on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Although the information is false according to officials, it might be an attempt by some Cameroonians to vent pent up frustrations against an old man who came to power in 1982, long before half of the population in Cameroon was born.

Biya has changed the constitution several times and finally scrapped term limits a few years ago. He can run for President as long as he?s alive.

Boko Haram attacks in Cameroon?s far north have weakened his leadership and promises that the terrorists would be crushed have not been fulfilled.

Despite the abject poverty in Cameroon in addition to gargantuan corruption, the French imperialists have continued to back an old man with an angry frustrated nation.
