Opportunity/; the enemy of Youth`s employment.
When one takes a walk in Dar es salaam, Arusha, Mwanza or any other place of the nation, what he see is the huge number of youths loitering form here to there endlessly, as lost sheep or goat. The same, when one switches on the Television or radio among the broadcasted news is the cry of the youth towards the government asking for contemplation of employment.
Sometimes, you may find this entire group “vijiweni” sniffing drugs; while some involving in prostitution kind of activities as business and some involving in any other immoral activities which might lead to risking their lives. They (youth) have lost the appetite of living in their native nation, they have no aspire, expectations and contemplation from the government. In-fact life is becoming harder and harder for them. Rather indeed hour by hour.
May be they have no qualification to be employed by imagination; but the question is can it be possible that all youth loitering in the streets are not qualified to be employed in any of the Government sectors? Obviously it is not possible; then why are they not employed? IS it true that all government sectors are being covered not to allow vacancies? Real?!
They say “ vijana ni taifa la kesho” (nation's youth are tomorrow) but how can that be if they are not given the chance to practice today? How will they get to know to rule if they are not given the opportunity today for gaining experience? Will they rule from the darkness? While asking ourselves such questions, and when that is happening it is different to the sons and daughters of the superior class who are given a nice opportunity of education, governance practice and such other aspired positions.
Article 22 of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania gives the right to work to every individual including the opportunity and right to equal terms to hold any office. While this article states that the writer recalls the statement given by one of the executive leaders as he paid a visit in Uganda and met the Tanzanian students taking their studies in Uganda he said “I`m glad to have met you today, being a leader we (obvious with his government) shall find the opportunities for you to be employed; However, some of the posts are/ have been covered and can not be held back unless the holders retire or die (something we don`t pray for); but with education sector there are so many vacancies to be covered so if you opt that ‘ajira nje nje”; how contradictory with the article 22 of the constitution?
Such statement, meant to show that, though youth are studying that hard aiming to be employed and run out of poverty, they should keep in mind that some of the opportunities are/ were not made for them! from that a question appears, ‘what are those opportunities not made for them?’ and who those opportunities were created/made for?; and who Insured those opportunities? As not enough, who guaranteed their insurance towards such opportunities?, would these individuals (youth) be given the chance to claim against those guaranteed insured opportunities?
Probably you should be asking yourself what do the writer intend to illustrate?. This is the time for the government to open the “opportunities” of employment towards the youth. Per individual perspective, ‘opportunity is the only solution for youth`s employment claims. Such opportunity should comply to the following:- Education; the kind of education offered in our nation does not aim to allow creativity among the graduands but only aims at getting shining certificates without competence. It does not make sense to meet a graduand having first class at a certificate but zero when comes to the matter of practice, how shameful. Such, situation has made the employer not think of employing graduands. If there is still any individual who thinks that Tanzania can produce the graduands who are competent and fit in the employment industry, let us unite together and change the national education policy from certificate accountability to practice accountability, let us unite together and pay the teachers debts and nice salary for their encouragement in performing daily activities.
Financial/ capital support; recently the government has been insisting the un-employed youth to join and form groups purposely to provide them with capital support so as to run entrepreneurship. But the same Government has forgotten that there are “wajanja wa mjini” who used the same provided capital to benefit themselves opposite from the main purpose. Or may be such capital was brought to them but failed to get such capital because of the terms accompanying such capital. In such scenario has the government helped the un-employed youth in a way?.
Withholding job opportunity for some of the aged who do not want to retire. This is the big crisis of the nation where by a huge number of political leaders do not want to retire regardless of the age they have, how wonderful? They keep on renewing their job posts without reflection that there is a huge number of un employed individuals in a queue waiting for him to retire so as to his post.
Politics is very dangerous game in which anything can be changed from best to worst only fulfilling individuals desire. Retirement is only posted to some posts but some are untouchable. Where is fairness? Where is dignity?
How we forget of the lust for power type of leaders, who holds more than one post. Just imagine a person is a member of parliament, at the same time is Regional commissioner and may be also is a minister and such alike; “kweli” this person attempts his all duties ethically? if not why not derigating power to other individuals loitering daily like mad dogs when searching for employment daily? Is it possible that, there are no individuals who can hold such other posts held by the ‘lust for power” kind of leaders? if not why not be derigated? if yes how will others get to learn if not given at this time today? God for bid, that person passes away who will take that opportunity? will it wait for him to raise again? Let us assume that, the government has turned into blind, its our duty to cure it and make it know some places which hinders the opportunity of employment towards others, or because they are un-touchable teh!.
Why forget of the government employment system. If one needs to know where the un-employment problem begins is the system itself installed by the government. Such a poor system which allows the ways of bribery to take place. Where an individual might find that a person whose competent in an interview is not the one employed, if you try to ask the answers comes ‘ ni mtoto wa mheshimiwa’; how far will this country go with nonsensical kind of thoughts and biasness? when will such situation stop? with such situation only the sons and daughters of ‘waheshimiwa’ will get employed while the sons and daughters of the ‘walala hoi’ will remain crying and becoming slaves in their own nation, how terrible?. Had it been that the dead were given the second chance of raising again, what would the founder of this nation (Mwalimu Nyerere) say?. Anyway, the way aim of the writter is not to cause misunderstanding but show the opportunity held by the government failing to give it to the youth hence overcome the employment problem hindering this nation. The time for change is today, if there is any leader who has dignity and empathy towards youth let us unite together and fight back such opportunities and hence help the youth.
