A bus belonging to Gulu Secondary School carrying students for an educational tour to Jinja has been involved in a fatal road crash along the Kiryandongo–Kigumba road.
The accident occurred at about 5:40am when the bus reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding head-on with an oncoming Fuso truck.
According to preliminary reports, the bus conductor died on the spot as a result of the impact, while 17 students sustained injuries of varying severity.
Emergency responders and police rushed to the scene to assist the victims and transport the injured students to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Authorities have launched investigations into the crash, with initial findings pointing to dangerous overtaking as a possible cause of the accident.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety, particularly involving school transport vehicles travelling long distances during early morning hours.
