Who knew a tiny North Macedonia is plotting to farm, process and distribute large scale production of Marijuana? True, when money talks few can summon moral strength to resist.

Since 2016, North Macedonia has legalized production of medical Marijuana. But to date, the law allows only oils, extracts and tinctures, which, measured by demand, are just 30 percent of the global market. The other 70 percent is the smokable bud of the plant, known as “flower” in the industry, the sale and export of which remain prohibited.,

Now North Macedonia has grown greedy and feels is missing in action to expand its market to include non medical exportation of leafy Marijuana which is mainly used for ecstatic purposes of getting high for the sake of it.

Europe however is very conservative on cannabis usage beyond medical applications. This may explain why legislation has been slow amidst economic realities of creating well paying jobs and supporting its sputtering economy

Economic derivatives are compared with socioeconomic costs generated once the law is enacted. The concerns are reverberating when local use of cannabis for ecstatic reasons is factored in and consequences of rearing a junkie like nation are rolled into the equation.

Coronavirus has backpedaled the policy and legislative debate for now where the pros and cons of the legalization of Marijuana for ecstatic purposes will be threshed out and winnowed...

Time will tell whether North Macedonia has evolved to trash conservatism for the promise of being European superpower of ecstatic Marijuana mass producer, distributer and earner of her staple foreign exchange
