Two policemen shot, military petrol bombed in Nigeria

KANO, Nigeria (AFP) – Two policemen were shot dead and a military patrol squad bombed Tuesday in Nigeria's troubled city of Maiduguri, frequently hit by deadly attacks blamed on Islamists, a senior army chief said.

"A policeman was shot and killed outside his house by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Gwange area of the city," Brigadier-General Jack Okechukwu Nwaogbo, the commander of a recently deployed crack military unit, told AFP.

A police detective in plain clothes was killed on the streets in a similar attack in another part of the city.

"There was also a bomb attack targeting a military patrol in London Ciki neighbourhood. The bomb was tossed at a patrol van, fortunately there was no casualty," he said.

A resident, Lawan Maikudi, however, said one soldier was killed in the bombing.

"The bomb exploded very close to the van, killing one soldier," said Maikudi.

Nwaogbo said the attackers fled into a nearby house, where the military rounded up 20 people.

Attacks in the city have been claimed by or blamed on Boko Haram, an extremist sect that sprung up in 2004, drawing inspiration from the Afghan Taliban.

Loud explosion, gunfire in central area of Maiduguri, Borno State

On 6 July, a thunderous explosion shook the central area of Maiduguri, capital of Borno State. Reports on the precise target of the blast and as well as its impacts are still sketchy, but local sources fears there could be significant casualties. City residents say the blast occurred just after 7am in the Abba Ganaram area of the metropolis. In a city where most residents have recently become very familiar with the sounds of gun fire and bomb blasts, sources report that this blast was unusually loud, shattering the windows of many buildings in the area. Some say the explosion was followed by heavy automatic gunfire.

Responding to the blast, troops from the military joint task force recently deployed to deal with the spiralling violence in the region, speedily blocked most roads leading into the city’s central area

Kwa hawa wenzetu Wanatakiwa kuelimishwa tu kuwa Dunia hii si ya imani moja. Ni kukubali kuwa tunaamimi tofauti kimsingi kutokana na historia yetu WALA si kwa sababu ya ubora wa imani yenyewe. Hata hawa Boko Haram ukiwauliza hawakuchagua kuwa waislamu, dini yenyewe wameletewa mababu wa mababu zao. Wao wamerithi tena wakiwa vichanga na hawakuwa na uwezo wa kujinasua na hilo. Na ndivyo imani zingine zilivyoingia. Mtu anayeelewa concept hii hawezi kumwaga damu ili kushinikiza matakwa ya imani yake yatekelezwe.

Nchi za kiislamu zina jukumu kubwa kukemea uhuni huu unaofanywa na vikundi vya kiislamu ambavyo kwa sasa vimeichafua sana dini hii ya " AMANI".
Dawa ni hiyo.
