National Institute of Transport
National Institute of Transport plans to introduce pilot training courses in the near future as part of its efforts to curb the shortage of pilots in the country.
According to NIT, the institute is only waiting for the pilot and aircraft curriculum to be approved by the responsible ministries
We have employed two pilots and aircraft technicians to train our students we have also set aside an aircraft for the purpose all we are waiting for is approval by Tanzania Aviation Authority (TAA), NIT Deputy Rector Academic, Research and Consultancy Dr Simon Lushakuzi told The Guardian in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.
Apart from the pilot training course, he said, the institute will also offer aircraft technician courses
Generally speaking, the two courses will run simultaneously and when we are approved, we will start with at least five students, he revealed.
The course will run on very affordable cost, he reassured stakeholders.
The country lacks pilots and aircraft technicians and we hope that this course will help bridge the gap, he emphasised.
Seconding the view, Head of Logistic and Transport Studies at NIT Nelly Mtaki was of the view that, the course will go a long way to meet the demand for aviation experts in the country.
When the course is approved, the country will be able to produce its own experts and curb the shortage, she said.
The demand for these experts is too high but this course will help produce our own professionals it will also help stop hiring of foreign experts and create local jobs, she noted.
She also took the opportunity to announce that NIT is in the final stages of launching a Masters Degree programme in Shipping.
Already the curriculum has been submitted to Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), she said.
