Kenya’s National Super League (NSL) side Nakuru All Stars pulled off a shock win over Simba SC, displaying some steely nerves to edge out the Tanzanian giants 5-4 on post-match penalties on Tuesday at Dar es Salam’s Uhuru Stadium.
The Super Cup clash had ended in a barren stalemate in regulation time, forcing the tie to be decided in the shootouts and it is the All Stars that kept their composure as they became the third Kenyan representative at the inaugural competition’s last four.
Of the ten spot-kicks taken on the evening, only that of Simba’s custodian Daniel Agyei missed the target to deny the Wekundu wa Msimbazi in the cruelest of fashions.
Agyei skied his effort on Simba’s second attempt with their rivals All Stars converting all of their own.
The Nakuru-based All Stars, who sit sixth in the NSL, will now face Kenya’s 15-time Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia FC who sailed through earlier in the day by sinking Zanzibar’s Jang’ombe Boys 2-0.
Another semi final will see Kenya’s AFC Leopards lock horns with Tanzania’s Yanga SC, who qualified on Monday.
Both semi finals will be played on Thursday.
