CONFIRMED: Former President Ali Hassan Mwinyi is Dead at the age of 91

Family of the former president of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, with deep regrets announce the death of the former president, family said in a statement.

According to the statement, the former president died in a California Hospital in the United States where he was receiving medical treatment.

Mr. Mwinyi is said to have been flown secretly to the United States after weeks of battling an undisclosed sickness.

A California local newspaper reported that the former president of Tanzania was hospitalized at the Bakersfield Heart Hospital for three days before his death.

Though the statement released by the family did not mention the exact cause of his death, the hospital where he was hospitalized indicates that he died from a heart-related disease.

A source close to the family revealed Mr. Mwinyi had been battling with chest pains for months now until he was referred by a local hospital for further treatment in the United States.
