Education authorities in Mukono District have closed four private schools in Nakifuma–Nagalama Town Council after inspections revealed serious violations of minimum education standards.

The operation, conducted by the Town Council Education Department with support from district officials and local leaders, targeted schools that had repeatedly failed to address concerns raised during previous inspections.

The affected institutions are Teso Standard Junior School, Creamfield High School, Rockview Nursery and Primary School, and Super Quality School.

According to Nakifuma–Nagalama Town Council Inspector of Schools Irene Cherop, the schools had been issued inspection reports and given time to rectify the identified shortcomings, but little progress had been made.

She noted that the schools failed to meet even a fraction of the standards required by the Ministry of Education and Sports, prompting authorities to order their closure.

Inspectors cited several deficiencies, including inadequate sanitation facilities, unsafe and dilapidated structures, and poor learning environments that could jeopardize the safety and well-being of learners.

Cherop expressed concern that some proprietors appeared more focused on generating income than investing in the quality of education and welfare of their students. She added that some school operators had ignored previous directives, allegedly believing they were shielded by influential connections.

She emphasized that quality education extends beyond classroom buildings and includes qualified teachers, effective management systems, adequate learning materials, proper sanitation, and a safe environment for learners.

The schools will remain closed until they address all the concerns raised by inspectors and fully comply with the required standards.

Meanwhile, Nakifuma–Nagalama Town Council Deputy Speaker Milly Nakatebe urged parents of affected learners to seek placement in nearby government and licensed private schools as authorities continue inspections aimed at improving education standards across the district.

District officials have warned that similar enforcement actions will be taken against any schools found operating below the standards set by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
