The chief of defense forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has accused the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) of corruption and termed it as an "illegal organization." Taking to his X page, he warned that arrests of its members would immediately follow.
He has also warned media organizations against giving any airtime to members of PACEID and referred to previous parliamentary actions as an indication of what could follow.
The accusations have drawn support from some political actors. Daudi Kabanda, a Member of Parliament, has described PACEID as a possible vehicle for siphoning public funds and advancing political interests.
Lawyer Mwijukye Ivan has urged authorities to follow due process, arguing that any action against PACEID or its members should be based on established evidence and court rulings rather than allegations or political pronouncements.
PACEID was established by President Yoweri Museveni in March 2022 to promote exports, industrial development and economic transformation. The initiative is chaired by Odrek Rwabwogo, President Museveni’s son-in-law.
PACEID has attributed part of Uganda’s recent growth in exports to its interventions, citing an increase in export earnings from about $4.2 billion in 2022 to $8.5 billion in 2024.
