Arusha. A day after the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) secretary general, Mr Wilson Mukama told this paper that all is well in its process to nominate a candidate for Arumeru east by election, CCM leaders here say they are very much concerned by divisions in the run up to the by election.
The regional party secretary Ms Mary Chatanda said the situation has worsened after the nomination exercise for the CCM candidate for the constituency on Monday.
During the vote casting aimed to get the suitable candidate, the son of the late MP for the area, Jeremiah Sumari, polled ahead of five other aspirants for the coveted seat under the ruling party's ticket.
Mr Siyoi Sumari got 361 out of 1,034 preferential votes, followed by William Sarakikya, 259, Elirehema Kaaya, 205, Elishilia Kaaya, 176, Anthony Musari, 22, and Moses Urio, 11.
The seat was left vacant after the death of senior Sumari last month. He has been an MP since 2005 during which he also served as a deputy minister.
Ms Chatanda (pictured) said efforts were underway to bring together all six aspirants to make them bury their differences, as there was an indication of divisions among them and in the CCM ranks in the district.
A political affairs official with CCM Arumeru, Elienea Kitomari, said a meeting was held on Tuesday for four of the six candidates aimed to normalise their relations. Two of the aspirants were nowhere to be seen.
Another 'reconciliation' meeting will take place today and will be organised by the regional office of the ruling party in Arusha.
