Globally, airlines operate a fleet of more than 27,000 commercial jet aircraft valued at over $696 billion (active and parked aircraft). Airlines rely heavily on third-party debt and equity to finance these capital-intensive assets. Third-party equity to finance the aircraft has increasingly been provided to the airline industry by aircraft operating lessors which acquire and lease aircraft to airlines as their lessees.
Today, over 13,300 commercial jet aircraft, valued at approximately $331 billion, are owned by operating lessors and leased on this basis to the global airlines, representing more than 49% of the fleet by value.
With demand for travel still growing at a strong pace, relatively low fuel prices, low inflation, and manufacturers’ healthy backlog, the role of operating leases in the airlines’ financing strategy will only accelerate. Over the next five years, ICF expects the value of jet aircraft deliveries to average more than $135 billion per annum, split approximately evenly between narrowbody and widebody jets, with regional jets taking a small share.

Yes leasing is the way to go..ATCL hass 100% leased planes

But the Leasing company doesn't get paid by ATCL!!!!, The only thing TZ did is tranfere liability of the planes from ATCL to ATGF so that when financers come for ATCL because of failure to pay debts, they won't be able to take the planes since technically they are owned buy another comapany.
 
And here are balance sheets of those companies with bigger percentages of leased aircrafts against those with small, look trend of business.

Kabla KQ i propose kumiliki JKIA hii information ilikua haijulikani, sasa unatarajiaje hizo ndege zengine ziwe zinatangaza ni ghani zina own na ghani ni lease,, Nimeshakuonyesha hapo juu kwamba 49% ya ndege zote commercial duniani ni za leasing companies.. Duniani ni kampuni chache sana Kama Delta Airlines ambazo huchapisha information ya leasing kwa tovuti... Ndio maana nimekupatia taarifa inayoonyesha ndege zote commercial duniani ili ujue kua karibia 50% ya ndege zote commercial duniani ni leased...

Hata hivyo tunajua kua Kampuni kama Virgin Atlantic, 100% ya ndege zake ni leased!!!

At June 30, 2016, the Air France-KLM Group fleet totalled 560 aircraft, of which 542 in operation versus a respective 564 and 534 aircraft at
December 31, 2015.
The main operational fleet was composed of 409 aircraft (395 aircraft at December 31, 2015). The fleet includes 170 long-haul aircraft (169 at December 31, 2015), eight freighters (nine freighters at December 31, 2015) and 231 medium-haul aircraft (217 at December 31, 2015), including 63 aircraft in the Transavia Group fleet (53 aircraft at December 31, 2015). The regional fleet in operation was composed of 133 aircraft (139 at December 31, 2015).
At June 30, 2016, the average age of the aircraft in the operational fleet was 10.8 years, of which 11.5 years for the long-haul fleet, 10.3 years for the medium-haul fleet, 15.1 years for the cargo fleet and 10.6 years for the regional fleet. At June 30, 2016, 35.2% of the total Group fleet was fully owned (36.0% at December 31, 2015), 21.4% was under finance lease (22.2% at December 31, 2015), and 43.4% under operating lease (41.8% at December 31, 2015).

ATCL pays the Gov for the leases..The only advatage is that the lease terms are friendly and flexible

Deni sio cost ya ku-run business. Deni sio expense. Labda ungesema interest ya deni hilo hapo nitakubaliana nawe. Deni lina affect cash flow tu lakini sio profit.

Friendly prices does not mean less than market price! It means terms that better e.g longer lease period, only intrest and no instant penalties for late payments.
Take it like a person who owns a chicken farm and supplies meat to his own hotel..I know very many succeful people who do this..Keep supply lines and money circulating only within your business..No money is paid to foreign suppliers
 
Leasing the same plane for 2 years equals one brand new dreamliner. Now count the duration of the leasing agreement to know how many dreamliners will KQ fleet have?

Do you suck at math or are you just trying to be funny.
Leasing 20 planes for 1 year is half the cost of a dreamliner.

You would need to lease 1 plane for 30-40 years to spend the same as buying a dreamliner.
 
Yes sony is no longer the market leader in electronics..Japanese taxpayers did not try to save them, and like wise KQ is not the only airline in East Africa

Sony adapted. It is bigger than it has ever been in its history.
Same case with a company like Microsoft. Windows accounted for like 99% of its revenue, now its about 20%.
Yet Microsoft is top 3 most valuable company in the world.
