It has been reported that a KSh 375 billion contract has been awarded for the expansion of JKIA. A KSh 700 billion contract has also been awarded for the extension of the SGR. The government has also entered into affordable housing contracts worth over KSh 400 billion.

These are just three projects out of the many mega projects the government continues to announce. What bothers me is the lack of transparency in how these projects are to be financed.

Ruto promised to have raised KSh 2.5 trillion for the infrastructure fund by June this year. There is no evidence that this has happened.

The next government risks countless cases of breach of contract. Many of these projects could stall due to a lack of funding, turning into white elephants.

It is hard to understand why the regime is taking on so many projects at a time when we are in fiscal distress. Can't these projects be phased out as per available resources?

The main motivation is to use the projects for campaigning, but everything has a limit. Politicising economic issues will be very costly for the country. The contractors engaged in these projects don't care about our politics; they only care about their payments.
