The public will soon be informed about the results of DNA tests conducted on the remains of legendary Kadongo Kamu musician Prince Paul Job Kafeero, following a long-running paternity dispute involving people claiming to be his children.
Former State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara now Minister for Local government announced that the findings will be publicly read after forensic examinations are completed. The DNA exercise was initiated to establish the biological relationship between Kafeero and more than 20 individuals who have over the years claimed to be his children.
Kafeero’s remains were exhumed earlier this month following a court order, allowing forensic experts to collect samples for testing. The process was supervised by pathologists, with the samples taken for analysis by government forensic laboratories.
The dispute, which has lasted for more than two decades, has involved questions of lineage, recognition of children, and possible inheritance of the late singer’s estate. The DNA results are expected to bring clarity and put the long-standing disagreements to rest.
Kafeero, widely remembered as one of Uganda’s greatest Kadongo Kamu musicians, died in 2007 but remains influential through his music, which addressed everyday social issues and human experiences.
The announcement of the DNA results is expected to attract public attention as many await the conclusion of one of Uganda’s most followed celebrity family disputes.
