Nimesoma makala iliyonifanya niamue kueleza baadhi ya mambo ili tuijue
historia ya TANU na harakati ya kupigania uhuru wa Tanganyika.

Naweka hapo chini niyajuayo katika historia hii kwa njia ya majadiliano:

Suala la Uhuru wa Tanzania limekuwa likigubikwa na mijadala mingi yenye kupaka rangi Historia. Wamekuwepo wanaoeleza mambo katika mikabala ya kidini na wengine kikabila.
Siku za karibuni Ujinsia umeshika kasi, Mwanaharakati mmoja na mhadhiri wa chuo kikuu ametamka wazi kwamba
"...../Uhuru wa nchi hii haukuletwa na Wanaume hivyo hawawezi kuulinda na hawaoni aibu kuusambaratisha...!!
Mhadhiri huyo anawataka wanawake kutokupoteza muda kusubiria wanaume walete mabadiliko katika nchi hii, yawe ya kisiasa, kiuchumi wala ya kijamii.

"Kama si wanawake, uhuru wa taifa hili ungechukua miaka mingi kupatikana..........

Inawezekana alichosema Bibi Titi ni sawa, Lakini Mabadiliko yote katika Taifa yanaitaji Wanaume na Wanawake! Historia ya nchi hii sio ya Wanaume pekee, ni ya nchi yenye Wanaume na Wanawake!

Mohamed Said Francis ningependa kumsoma mwandishi aliyeeleza historia ya uhuru kwa mtazamo wa kikabila kwani mimi sijapatapo kusoma.

Mtazamo wa dini katika historia ya uhuru mimi naufahamu vyema kabisa kwa hiyo hapo sina tatizo.

Hili la mtazamo wa historia ya uhuru kwa jinsia linaambatana sana na Uislam na mimi naamini ndiye mtafiti wa kwanza kuliweka wazi.

Naingia Maktaba nataka nikuwekee "excerpt," kutoka makala, "Abdul Sykes that I Knew," aliyoandika, Aisha "Daisy," Sykes akieleza mambo yanayosuhubiana na hilo somo uliloleta, mambo ambayo aliyaona nyumbani kwa baba yake wakati yeye akiwa msichana mdogo.

Francis Daudi Mohamed Said Kuna Waandishi wameeleza Harakati za Uhuru zilikuwa ni za makabila "makabwela" kwani kwa mitizamo yao Uhuru haukuwa wenye faida kubwa. Siku za karibuni nafikiri umeona maandiko yanayoeleza maendeleo makubwa ya makabila Fulani kiuchumi na kisiasa. Nauweka uandishi wa namna hii wa harakati za Uhuru kama zenye mitizamo ya kikabila.

Mohamed Said ''... the open door policy prevailed at our home. Which is how we always had visitors of all races, caliber and background.

But what has really stayed within my memory was frequent arrival of the leadership echelons of the pre independence era, the tribal chiefs and the leaders of the budding nationalist movements, trade unions and other government staff.

Hence, courtesy to my father’s fame and hospitality, I grew up to be no stranger to the famous tribal chiefs and royalty as I greeted and attended to the dignitaries who came home regularly.

Such high profile frequent guests included Mangi Mkuu Thomas Mareale, Chiefs Abdiel Shangali, John Maruma from Moshi, Adam Sapi Mkwawa from Iringa, Kidaha Makwaiya from Usukuma, Abdallah Fundikira, Harun Lugusha from Tabora, Humbi Ziota from Nzega, Michael Lukumbuzya from Ukerewe and Patrick Kunambi from Morogoro among others.

They were normally accompanied by their very dignified looking wives who never ceased to mesmerize me. I remember among the chiefs, was the one and only woman Chief Mwami Ntare from Kasulu Kibondo.

In this unlikely manner, as children, we gained awareness about the demography, tribal languages and culture of the myriad of tribes and people of Tanganyika, way before most other people from the coastal region knew about.

I was also most privileged to meet at this time the growing class of African civil servants, the elite who were distinguished by their education in Makerere College and other institutions.

These were the nucleus among the new breed of educated Tanganyikans in galvanizing political awareness and freedom.

Most memorable to me were great men such as Hamza Mwapachu, Zuberi Mtemvu, Mzee John Rupia, Steven Mhando, Dunstan Omari, Uncle Dossa Aziz to name but a few. There were also the elite from Zanzibar like Uncle Ahmed Rashad Ali and Abdul Wadood who were a constant feature in the family.

But I could never forget Uncle Maloo, a Baluchi from Easterm Congo who enjoyed Dads hospitality for so long that we believed he was one of the Sykeses.

Top most in my mind as a child was Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, and through him we got to know for the first time of the existence of a tribe called Zanaki.

His home coming was always an event and there would be silent murmurs of “Mwalimu is coming or has arrived."

For me that signaled my main task as I was always asked to make breakfast of tea and eggs whenever he arrived from St Francis Secondary School in Pugu where he taught.

Mwalimu Nyerere and Uncle Hamza Mwapachu were highly impressionable to me because of the way they pronounced my name Daisy with an Anglicized twist, making it a permanent nick name for me...''

Mohamed Said Francis baada ya hii nitakuwekea nini Daisy aliona kutoka kwa akinamama wa TANU na hii ni mwanzoni tu baada ya kuasisiwa kwa TANU chama ambacho mikutano yake ya siri ikifanyika nyumbani kwao.

Mohamed Said Francis hapo juu umeona machifu wa makabila mbalimbali walivyokuwa wakienda nyumbani kwa Abdul Sykes. Hii ilikuwa kati ya 1950 alipochukua uongozi wa TAA hadi kufikia kuundwa kwa TANU 1954. Sasa baada ya TANU kuundwa soma vipi akinamama walishiriki na mikutano ya kuwatumbukiza katika harakati ikifanyika hapo nyumbani kwa Mama Daisy.

Mohamed Said ''.. it was also during this formative period in my life that I met the up and coming women nationalist leaders such as Bi Lucy Lameck from Moshi, Mary Ibrahim and the mainly Moslem women, such as Bibi Titi, Bi. Tatu biti Mzee, Bi. Hawa biti Maftaha from Dar es Salaam who all passed as my grannies.

All of these women were carefully selected for their courage and became prominent at political rallies, singing and shouting out nationalist slogans, a trend that was totally unexpected and untypical for a Moslem woman, who were supposed to be subdued, modest and who remained behind the scenes.

I overheard numerous discussions when my Dad and his colleagues discussed the names and occasions for which these women were to be brought in to build the political momentum...''

"Baba Kabwela UNO," ni nyimbo na chanzo chake ni safari ya Nyerere UNO 1955.

Hii ni nyimbo ya Kizaramo ikiwa na maana, " Baba Karudi UNO."

Haina uhusiano wowote na hisia za ukabila.

Kama vile unavyoona katika maelezo ya Daisy machifu wa makabila mbalimbali wakienda kwa baba yake kama kiongozi wa Waafrika wa Tangamyika.

Zingatia kuwa Abdul mbali ya kuwa kiongozi wa TAA alikuwa pia mmoja wa viongozi wa Al Jamiatul Islamiyya fi Tanganyika, chama alichoasisi baba yake 1933.

Mohamed Said Harakati zilizoleta umoja na kutia nguvu TANU ni hizi ninazokueleza hapa na ndiyo zilizoushinda ukoloni.

Wahusika wakuu nimewataja takriban wote.

Francis hii ndiyo historia ya kweli ya uhuru wa Tanganyika.

  • Mohamed Said Hapo chini ni nyumba ya Abdul Sykes Mtaa wa Aggrey na Sikukukuu.

    Nyumba hii imefanyiwa mabadiliko muonekano wake wakati mimi mdogo naiona haikuwa hivi.

    Mbele kulikuwa na mlango mkubwa mmoja wa kuingilia ndani ukitazama Aggrey Street.

    Hiyo sehemu ya kulia inayoangalia Mtaa wa Sikukukuu kulikuwa na mlango wa nyumba ndogo na baraza ndefu.

    Haya yalikuwa makazi ya Abbas Sykes na ndiyo upande alioishi Mwalimu Nyerere baada ya kuacha kazi ya ualimu.

    Katika miaka ya 1970 nyumba hii ilipangishwa kwa Shariff Abdulkadir Gidemi na akaweka duka maarufu la halwa.

    Baadae ikafanyiwa haya mabadiko yaliyo katika picha na nyumba ikawa duka kubwa la bidhaa mbalimbali.

    Hivi sasa nyumba hii ni gorofa katika majumba marefu ya Kariakoo.

ya kubomoa nyumba ile iliyokuwa na historia kubwa ya Tanganyika atatuona
wabaya?
