From my opinion, the benefits of the EAC would be;

Improved tourism - Selling East Africa as a package rather than individual states increasing the tourism circuits
Improved transport - Through joint projects, eg, if Uganda is building its Northern corridor, Kenya would be obliged to improve theirs
Import farming products - Especially from Uganda and Tanzania
Laws at the immigration have been loosened - Ease of movement by EA residents
Harmonization of taxation - Based on each other countries laws, products and systems and processes
Use of an EA Passport - Uniformity
Access to educationin any of the EA countries
Increasing inter-marriages
Ability to travel with minimal documentation (abstract)
Reduced tariffs
Reduced cost of goods from neigbouring countries
Employment
Freedom of movement

And many more, but if a country doesnt want, so be it and others can go it alone.

These animals belong to us and the generations to come.

You do not have Kenyan or Tanzanians elephants for they
cross the borders at their will.

For Tanzania to claim that it has more ivory stocks and want
to sell them, then why fight poaching for selling the ivory will
still keep this business going on.

In addition what has caused Tanzanians to react with comments against Kenya's action isn't the fact that Kenya just opposed the sale of the 100 tons of ivory. It is the method the Kenyan Government used to oppose the sale. A good African neighbour will not choose that direction. Kenya needed to seek for an audiance with the responsible Minister and engage in constructive discussions. It is this very same arrogance that Kenya applies when dealing with its neighbours that irritates partners of the federation we are trying to build. Kenyans are the ones who killed the EAC in the 70s and celebrated it. Doesn't Kenya need to appologise to its neghbours first? Did Kenya take any responsibility for that action? What assuarances are there that after a decade or two they are not going to do the same?
