A Nyeri court has ordered 19 disabled Tanzanians to be repatriated.

The foreigners allegedly travelled to Kenya in pursuit of wheelchairs before a ‘well-wisher' who had promised to assist them obtain the facilities abandoned them in the town.

Kwaja Musekwa and 18 others said they had considered their trip to Kenya a turning point of their lives but little did they suspect they could be landing in fresh troubles.

They were abandoned in a shanty in Nyeri where police arrested them for being in the country without requisite papers. The foreigners, some of them minors, were arraigned in court pn Friday where Nyeri Chief Magistrate Stella Muketi ordered their deportation.

On hearing the ruling, the foreigners could not hide their joy because at last they would find their way back home. They termed the ruling godsend, as they clapped to thank the magistrate.

Shocked public

"Asante sana. Twataka kurudi nyumbani, (Thank you because at last we will go home)," one of them said after the ruling.

Outside the court, they narrated their plight to a shocked public. They said before their arrest, they had stayed in the house for four days, surviving on food donations from the neighbourhood. They were a disappointed lot after finding themselves in a foreign land without the essential tools they were desperately in need of.

The ‘wellwisher' had duped them to believe a charitable organisation in Kenya would donate the wheelchairs to them. However, they said they could not remember the identity of their contact person.

It was alleged the charitable organisation was located at Kabete in Nairobi. The ‘wellwisher' had promised they would get the wheelchairs and then travel back home but, instead, they found themselves in a desolate house in the sprawling Majengo slums in Nyeri. They had travelled from Shinyanga Province in Tanzania.

"The man who brought us to Kenya said we should wait in that house as he made arrangements to have the wheelchairs delivered," said one of them, who identified himself as Musa Juma.

Only four of them could walk. The rest could only crawl and others had to be carried to court by the orderlies.

"Our contact (who is believed to be a Kenyan) had earlier taken our photographs and promised to assist us get wheelchairs," said Musekwa.

Musekwa said the contact had also confirmed the availability of the wheelchairs. Relatives had paid their fares to Nairobi, she said.

what did they expect from kenyans

wacha tu waje kwetu, wameiandika hii vibaya sana kiasi kwamba tz tu ndo tunao watu wenye ulemavu, walitakiwa waseme wanawarudisha kwao watz, na si walemavu, unyanyapaa huuu.

Ubalozi wa Tanzania Nairobi umekamilisha utaratibu wa kuwarudisha hawa Watanzania nyumbani?

That's a clear testimony that there should never be any kind of cooperation with a Nyang'a..wakenya wana laana, kudhulumu hata walemavu, ndiyo maana hata hawataisha kuchinjana, bora wanendelee wao kwa wao..inatia moyo kuona wanafurahia kurudi nyumbani.

sikubaliani mkuu.
hawa wenzetu huenda waliona huko kenya wanaweza kutoka, akili ya kawaida haiwezi kumtuma mtu agharimie nauli kwenda kenya kufuata wheelchair ambayo hata hapa bongo mafundi mchundo wanaweza kuichonga kwa laki2!!!
