Serikali ya Kenya chini ya Rais William Ruto imepanga kuingia ushirikiano na sekta binafsi (PPP) kuendesha na kusimamia bandari tano muhimu mapngo wenye thamani ya Ksh 1.4 trilioni [TZS trilioni 23.9] ili kufufua sekta ya baharini nchini humo.
Shirika la Maendeleo la Kenya (KDC), taasisi ya fedha ya maendeleo, imefichua kuwa utawala wa Kenya Kwanza unatafuta waendeshaji wa sehemu za bandari ya Kilindini, Bandari ya Dongo Kundu, Bandari ya Lamu, Bandari ya Kisumu na Bandari ya Uvuvi ya Shimoni katika kile kinacholengwa kuwa ni kuifanya ukanda wa kaskazini kuwa wa ushindani.
"Bandari zinakabiliwa na changamoto ya msongamano na hivyo, mizigo kukaa kwa muda mrefu. Bandari hizo zitakodishwa au kutolewa kwa waendeshaji binafsi wenye mfumo wa usimamizi wa bandari,” imesema KDC katika mazungumzo yake kwa wawekezaji watarajiwa.
Njia ya biashara ya Kenya hivi karibuni imekuwa katika ushindani mkubwa huku nchi zisizo na bandari kama Uganda, Burundi na Rwanda zikipendelea kutumia njia ya Tanzania katika usafiri.
Mradi huo wa PPP unakusudia kutumia takribani Shilingi Bilioni 1.4 pesa za Kenya..

Kenya has been under pressure to improve its port services after landlocked countries including Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda shifted to the Tanzanian route.Amid rising competition from the Dar es Salaam port, the volume of cargo handled through the Mombasa port dropped from 34.76 million tonnes to 33.74 million tonnes in 2022.

Yatani accused the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders of misinterpreting facts. "The Kenyan government is attracting investors into the country and by that not losing any of its assets or benefit but realise more revenue and employment opportunities for its citizens," he told Citizen TV.
