Kampala, Uganda...the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill 2025 has been passed in Parliament during a committee stage chaired by Speaker Annet Anita Among, marking a major step to protect the rights of digital content creators.
The law guarantees fair pay for creators and strengthens intellectual property protections, addressing long-standing challenges in Ugandaโs creative and digital economy.
It also enforces platform accountability, requiring companies distributing content to ensure creators are properly compensated. Experts say this will boost innovation, improve content quality, and provide sustainable income streams for Ugandaโs creative talent.
With the bill now enacted, Artists are optimistic it will strengthen the creative sector, attract investment, and empower creators nationwide.
Several musicians led by Eddy Kenzo, Joseph Myanja AKA Chameleon were in attendance in the parliamentary gallery, showing strong support for the bill.
The Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill 2025, ensures creators are recognized, fairly paid, and legally protected under Ugandan law.
