1. UG First Line Leader (3 Posts)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit three UG First Line Leader to join Underground Mining Production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervision of the mine crews, to ensure safety is managed, and overall performance is monitored and efficient. Ensure that any non-conforming items (Quality and quantity) are immediately isolated and reported for corrective action to be taken. This is a permanent role reporting to the UG Foreman.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise underground operations crews.
  • Ensures compliance with the Mines Act.
  • Ensures workplace safety and environmental standards are established and met, and that standards and procedures are communicated to site personnel.
  • Ensure daily mine plan for the shift is achieved and compliance to mine to plan.
  • Assists with filling personnel requirements for mine and other departments.
  • Assists with sourcing and filling equipment needs.
  • Prioritizes tasks and delegates workload to mine crews and monitors progress.
  • Provides leadership and encourages performance and ensure the crew is taking the ownership.
  • Communicates routinely and effectively with the Mine Manager and other supervisory personnel as required.
  • Performs other related duties that may be required.
  • Full compliance with underground safety management plan.
  • Assist with accident/incident investigation and training of new employees.
  • Ensure all employees reporting to this position attend safety related training courses and engage in any of the companies safety initiatives.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in underground operations.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of reading drawings and ability to follow specifications.
  • A degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering will be of added advantage.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Previous supervisory experience in underground mine and knowledge of sublevel stoping underground Mining method.
  • The strong ability to form effective working relationships that allow achievement of job requirements.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work in a team, communicate effectively and drive results.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with crew, leadership, and clients.
  • Possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices.

2. Underground Mechanical Trainer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit one (1) Underground Mechanical Trainer to join Underground Maintenance team. The successful candidate for this position will carry out assigned mechanical tasks within the guidelines of Company Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practice as well as other assigned tasks within the range of competencies. The position will report to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Maintaining, repairing mechanical issues, diagnostics / Fault Finding and Routine inspection on a variety of UG machines Coordinate activities in the unit and report back to Mobile Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Ensure that mobile equipment is maintained in a safe and cost effective manner.
  • Ensure all Barrick safe work practices are observed, and implemented in the department of responsibility.
  • Ensure the preparation and execution of maintenance plans and schedules on the basis of daily, weekly and monthly mining and ore processing priorities.
  • Supervising, training, developing and nationalization of the maintenance team.
  • End of month reporting of maintenance performance against plan.
  • The quality, cost and timeliness of maintenance activities are critical to the project as a whole.
  • Ensure maintenance costs are kept to, or below assigned budget.
  • Display a sense of urgency to ensure timely repair and maintenance of mine equipment.
  • Contribute to the operations by ensuring that all maintenance activities are planned and completed in a cost effective manner with minimal disruption to ore processing and mining activities.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices by example and act immediately on any unsafe act or situation observed and monitor standards.
  • Actively promote and foster the development of a pro-active site safety behaviors that makes safety an integral part of all work activities.
  • Identify and rectify/report specific hazards using Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process.
  • Assist with accident/incident investigation and with the induction and training of new employees.
  • Ensure all employees reporting to this position attend safety related training courses and engage in any of the company’s safety initiatives.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • A relevant trade qualification in mechanical or Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of 8 years’ Artisanal experience in mechanical fitting and mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrated competencies in the rebuild and servicing of underground mining mobile equipment’s.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong Safety Background and ability to drive a Safe working environment and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Computer skills –MS Excel, Access, Word, Outlook.
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment.
  • Driving ability.

3. Underground Maintenance Fitter (5 Posts)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit five (5) Underground Maintenance Fitter to join Underground Maintenance team. The successful candidates for this position will carry out assigned maintenance tasks within the guidelines of Company Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practice as well as other assigned tasks within the range of competencies. The position will report to the Mobile Fleet First Line Leader. This is a one year fixed contract role, with the work roster being seven days day shift, seven days night shift and seven days off shift.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

4. UG Backfill Engineer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit an UG Backfill Engineer (1) to join Underground Mining team. The successful candidates for this position will carry out assigned engineering tasks within the guidelines of Company Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practice as well as other assigned tasks within the range of competencies. The position will report to the Senior UG Long-Term Planning Engineer. This is a permanent contract role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate between backfill plant and mining operations to meet a backfill schedule that satisfies the mine’s production requirements.
  • Optimize availability and utilization of the backfilling system.
  • Manage construction works for an incoming new backfill reticulation system.
  • Draft scopes of work for capital projects required to upgrade the backfill reticulation system.
  • Manage contractors and mine employees to implement the scopes of work.
  • Interact with commercial team and suppliers to finalize tenders and contracts.
  • Ensure safe backfilling of long-hole stopes.
  • Design and implement drainage systems to manage water from backfilling.
  • Complete stope filling notes and ensure filling is aligned with hydraulic filling models and requirements.
  • Monitor the backfill quality and analyse the downtime trends to ensure consistent end-product at consistent placement rates.
  • Optimize backfill strength and cement consumption.
  • Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments within the specialist field.
  • Submit reports to designated management, which include QA/QC, equipment utilization, materials usage, and target achievements.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering and must be registered as a mining or professional engineer.
  • Having a valid blasting certificate as per Tanzania regulations and or act(s).
  • Mine Overseers/Captain Certificate of Competency or the equivalent will be an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 3 years’ experience working with mine backfill systems/construction environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good understanding of Cemented Aggregate Fill and Paste backfill, as well as slurry transportation systems, Mixing designs and testworks.
  • Knowledge of 3D Mine Design software and experience in project management will be advantageous.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Understanding of basic Mines Health & Safety Act.
  • A good knowledge and recognition of building materials is essential.
  • A full driving license.
  • Good listener and team player.
  • Methodical, organized and able to work on own initiative.
  • The ability to provide an effective courteous service.
  • A flexible approach to working arrangements.
  • Good command of written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment.
