A gold miner has died after the rope he was using to descend into a gold pit snapped in Syanyonja Village, Busitema Sub County, Busia District.
The deceased has been identified as Kenneth Bwire, a resident of Sikuda.
According to sources at the mine, Bwire was descending into the deep pit when the rope reportedly broke, causing him to fall to the bottom.
His death has raised fresh concerns about safety conditions in the area’s informal gold mining operations, where miners often work in deep pits using basic equipment.
