MANUSCRIPT WRITING SHORT COURSE

Purpose: The purpose of this four-day short course is to provide participants with the technical knowledge and skills necessary to publish academic publications. This will be done through active participation and writing a manuscript that is intended for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The course will be led by faculty at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Northwestern University and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences.

Learning Outcomes
Understand the composition and best practices for writing each section of a complete manuscript (introduction, methods, results, and discussion).

Prepare accompanying material and formatting needed for manuscript submissions (cover letter, tables, figures, etc.).

Transform their dissertations or first draft manuscripts into complete manuscripts ready for submission to a peer-reviewed journal.

Target Participants: Academic staff, researchers and postgraduate students from various universities and health research institutions who have full analyses and dissertations and would like to transform these into publishable manuscripts.

Course Fee: There is no fee to attend the course. This short course is funded by the HIV Implementation Science and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Programs which are funded by the Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). This will include lunch and refreshments. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation and accommodation costs.

Venue: MUHAS-Harvard Board Room, CHPE Building 2nd floor.

Time: 900 to 17.00 hours.

This short course has only 20 participant slots. To apply, please send your full name, the institution you are affiliated with, designation, and a copy of the completed analysis, dissertation, or zero drafts of your manuscript that you plan to work on in the course to emails francisaugust6@gmail.com and sebejr@yahoo.com. Only individuals with completed analysis tables or draft manuscripts at the time of the application will be considered for admission to the course. There is a preference for manuscripts related to HIV, but this is not required. The subject of the email should be “Manuscript Writing Short Course 2023”.
