Former US President Bill Clinton to Visit Kenya Next Week

The two Foundations have a large presence in Africa and largely focus on empowering women as well as promote economic growth and health access to various communities in the continent

They are expected to depart on May and will conclude their African tour in Morocco where they will attend the Clinton Global Initiative Middle East and Africa Meeting (CGI MEA). They are also expected to visit Liberia.In Kenya, the Clintons will visit a school which is part of the CHARGE (Collaborative for Harnessing Ambition and Resources for Girls' Education) initiative.

WINGS TO FLYThey will also visit a women and girls learning center under a program known as Solar Systems Program where they will discuss the issue of participation of women and girls globally.

Another project the former President and Chelsea are expected to tour is the Wings to Fly, a project launched in 2010 by Equity Bank and MasterCard Foundation as part of the Clinton Global Initiative's Commitment to Action in Kenya, which seeks to build the financial capacity and entrepreneurship of youth and women throughout the country.

Since the program was launched, 10,000 secondary students have gone through the program with 98 per cent going on to graduate from secondary school while 94 percent graduated going to college.

The announcement of the Clintons' visit comes on the heels of the White House announcement that President Barack Obama will tour the country in July this year.

In the last trips in 2012 and 2013, President Clinton and Chelsea bypassed Kenya. Similarly, President Obama skipped Kenya during his 2013 trip to Africa.

President Clinton's wife Hillary toured Kenya in 2012 in her then capacity as US Secretary of State.
