Erias Lukwago Remanded Again as Court Defers Bail Ruling

Former Kampala Lord Mayor and People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) leader Erias Lukwago has been further remanded to Luzira Prison after the High Court postponed its decision on his bail application to July 30, 2026.

Lukwago is facing misprision of treason charges, which stem from his role as legal counsel for opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye.

His lawyers have argued that his detention is unjust and have raised concerns about his spinal health problems, stressing that he requires specialized medical care not available within prison facilities.

During recent court proceedings, Lukwago’s defense team emphasized the urgency of medical attention, while prosecutors maintained that the charges against him are serious and warrant continued detention.
