East African Federation (EAF) public Views


Hey Kenyans, stop being so silly. SADC appeals much more as a partner bloc, not only because it is economically viable but the partner states are not so corrupt like Kenya. We Tanzanians, make our own choices bearing in mind our own economic, social and political interests.

By the way, who owns the so called Kenyan Powerful Economy? Is not a few corrupt politicians and retired colonialists: who shoots landless kenyans like impalas when they trespass their big mashamba? What the Kenyans needs is revolution and stop dreaming of the old 1970s, when Kenya used to export Big G and Blue Band to TZ.

Hey friends you better face the reality that confronts you: roten and corrupt politcal system, roten 8-4-4 education system, intensified ukabila, landless people and so on...Tanzania and Federetion can not be your safety valve for your corrupt system. You need to make land reform, political reform, and education reform before you join Federation... So is also the case, with those lands which wish to join EU
 

Flying toilet

Tanzania does not beg to join SADCC, Tanzania is a member (check your facts about founding members of SADC). we are proud to choose our friends and join organisations without interference from anybody. The point in question is whether EAC can form a federation; the answer to that from Tanzanians is no, and a big no. Let each country sortout its internal problems before embarking on bigger community with much more complicated issues.

Lakini baada ya kuwaona watanzania hawataki, eti sasa baadhi ya wakenya (katika mjadala huu)wanasema kuwa hata wao hawataki EAC na hasa federation. Actually, mtu huhitaji kuwa msomi kutambua kuwa wakenya wanahitaji federation kuliko sisi. Uelewa wa baadhi ya wakenya ni mdogo kiasi cha kwamba maviwanda yale yaliyoko kenya ambayo ni ya wazungu wanadhani kuwa ni yao.

Wao wanajiita superpower. Wako wanaodhani kuwa kufahamu kiingereza ndio u-usuper power wenyewe. Wakenya ni wa kuwahurumia. Mimi nawaambieni watanzania wenzangu tuendeleze mjadala huu kwa nguvu moja. Wakenya waelezwe ukweli kwamba hawana la kujivunia zaidi ya arrogance yao. Eti wanasema kuwa wao siyo arrogant bali they are confidant They are very wrong.

Wakenya wajiulize inakuwaje wao tu ndio wasemwe katika eneo hili la Afrika mashariki? Hapana shaka yoyote ile wana matatizo. na wala wasijaribu kuwaingiza waganda katika mjadala huu kwani waganda ni watu wazuri na wauungwana. Wakenya ni lazima wawe waungwana pia vinginevyo watatengwa na watu wengine wa afrika mashariki.

Are you trying to say that there has never been any clashes in TZ? Well between 1998 and 2000 the Islamic Militia and security forces in dar clashed.... and in 2000 farmers and pastrolists clashed over land issues where even the then PM, Minister of Home Affairs refuted that it was not tribalism (seeing that it was the Maasai and Waluguru fighting) in which the Home Affairs Minister Mohamed Khatibu claimed was a land issue that was being fought for.... in 2005 police engaged Civic United Front (CUF) during the election etc... therefore the issue of Kenya or TZ having internal fighting whether over land issues or cattle issues or TZ for that matter does not mean that either country will bring the said traits into the federation. Bear in mind that the EAF will have its own parliament with members from all 3 countries therefore some of their objectives as a parliament should be the following:

- Promotion of a sustainable growth and equitable development of partner states including rational utilisation of the regions natural resources and protection of the environment;

- Enhancing and strengthening participation of the private sector and civil society;

- Mainstreaming of gender in all its programmes and enhancement of the role of women in development;

You are cheating yourself if you think the clashes happening in kenya are near to the above.Bear in mind the legislators who fail to resolve most of these problems in small areas won't be equiped enough to tackle issues on a broader scale ........................paying them good perks for doing nothing.

Big doesn't mean good governance, prosperity and you name it. At the moment for example have you seen members of the so called committe for the federation? When do you expect to see them and view your concerns? Its funny eh .............Lets put our effort on things which will help our countries rather than this idea of federation.
 

MTZ001 you are missing the bigger picture here... firstly the legislators in the EAC parliament are a demographic of the three countries and they (legislators) shall operate on the basis of a 5 year development strategy in which it spells out the policy guidelines,priority programmes and implementation schedules.

Dont forget that one of the main aims of the federation is to enhance an internationally competitive single market and investment area in East Africa which will be accorded priority alongside the development of regional infrastructure, human resource, science and technology. You have also raised the issue of how will the common man/woman be able to raise his or her views?? well... the role of the private sector and the civil society is crucial to the regional integration and development in a partnership with the 3 governments.

Think of it this way.. today how are you able to communicate your views and opinions to your local member of parliament??? if you answer that question then the same shall apply when it comes to you airing your views/comments to the eac....

A well thought out response, but frankly, i am a Kenyan and i do no support the idea of a Federation. We need to harmonise other issues like trade, language, etc before we think of an EAF. I also do not think we can move in sync with the Tanzanians; our mind-set, competitiveness, agressiveness etc may be misinterpreted as arrogance, nyangaus (like me), and this will not be good. I suggest kila mtu akae kwao and revisit this issue in 2050.

And to my TZ bros and sisters, bear in mind that Kenyans only come to work in TZ as a result of secondment by multinational companies who prefer Kenyans to Tanzanians for very obvious reasons; committment to duty, work ethics, speaking english fluently etc. My advice to you, my brothers, is to make a drastic switch from speaking Kiswahili day in day out to English. Like it or not English is an international language whilst Kiswahili is spoken by very few people worlwide-Kenya, TZ, DRC, UG, Rwanda and Burundi-and these countries do not have any clout at the international stage!!

And for the records, two of my colleagues from my office have just been requested to report to TZ to work there because the employer could not find a qualified local. I was requested also but declined the offer, because i do not think i can stand that hostility. Will be reporting to Ghana instead!! And my HR Director is a Tanzanian and i have never heard any Kenyan in the office making noise or complaining.

And why are the Ugandans not as paranoid as the Tanzanians. Is it a sign of confidence that they always have, like their Kenyan brothers? And these Kenyans, you find them not only in TZ, but literally in every corner of the globe!!!!!.

Tanzanians know, whatever you have said above, that kenyans have been raised differently and hence more equiped for EAF. nobody is saying kenyans arent the go-getters, anyhow. But if you think, that could be one of the reasons we are not ripe for the fed. Come federation, even the simple cleaning jobs will be snapped up by kenyans....etc, etc. If it is already happening, fed will make it worse. No need to start sowing rifts before we even start.

A bully on the table will deny the weak any meal. So a good policy would be to let the parent to restrict the bully for some time, while sometimes looking away for the weak to learn some tactics of the trade.

So I agree with you, we should not rush this, some twenty to fifty years may be what we need before the bully is unleashed. And we all know that will sow the seeds of another rift between the members.

Hawa wenzetu wameamua kuipaka matope tanzania na eneo lote la Afrika Mashariki na hata hiyo SADAC wanayo ipigia debe. Juzi nili kuwa Johanesburg (Jozi kama vile wenyeji wanavyo liita jiji hilo) ajabu kubwa ni kwamba ukiwa mtu asoweza kuzungumza kizulu, xhoza au lugha yeyote ya SA wanajulikana kwa jina lakidharau - Makwerekwere. Uwe Mtanzania, uwe Mnigeria, Mkenya, Mganda, Mnyarwanda jina ni hilo hilo.

Pili la kushangaza ni kwamba madaktari, wana sayansi wa computa, wengi wao ni waganda! Wakuu wamashirika binafsi hasa katika vitengo vya sales & marketing ni wakenya na pia baadhi ya ma lecturer katika vyuo vikuu. Je wale wanao ipigia debe SADAC wana takwimu yeyote ya kujivunia.

Stop your shallow and short sighted arguments, Go to work in Ghana! Beacause that is your wish and leave Kenya been eaten by akina Kamleshi Patinis, De la Montes, and Kenyatta family!

Let me tell you the facts, The Kenyans are not "aggressive" as they seem to call themselves. The Kenyans are political, economic (land) refugees who seek their easy way out through Federation. If Federation is born out of this wrong foundation, there is no chance it will survive. No sooner as it is born, it will degenerate into civil and cleansing wars! This is the point that we, Tanzanians would like to point out. There are no economic gains that we would gain in civil wars! Stop this fallacy that Tanzanians are paranoid: We are not Paranoid, we are airing our well grounded and justified fears. The motive behind the Fed. on the side of the Kenyans is settlement of the landless Kenyans. I am convinced Umoja ni Nguvu but not on the wrong foundation and motives!

Let me challenge you Kenyans! Why do you accept the retired colonialists and a few so called political families to grab the big part of your land and you sit dreaming of the Fed! For heaven sake! Do your home work first! Fight for you land from these land grabbers and come out of your slums: Mathare, Korogosho,Kawangware... It might not be easy way. By the way, you would have nothing to loose than your slums and win back your land! You might go the bitter way of Zimbabweans! But true freedom is sweet!

The strong contribution that apparently Kenyans are trying to put up for the EA Fed is "Kenyans have command of English", What sort of Upuuzi is this! Let me tell you my friends, Kenyan Universities have been hit by boycotts and remained closed for a very long time! The 8-4-4 system is always a bone of contention even among you Kenyans! Education is not to know English but rather to master your life and enviroment. Fleeing to Federation is not the solution. Kenyans should master your life and enviroment. Kenya should put its house in order first, before it goes for Fed. Make Education Reform, Political reform and Land Reform!

My friends, non one of you has convinced me, why should TZ join EA Fed and not SADC. SADC appeals more as historical, social, and economic bloc for Tanzania. By nature and off course historically, majority of Tanzanians are Bantus while the Kenyans are Nilotics. SADC is much more Bantu and Kenya and the anticipated EA Fed. is much more of a Nilotic nature. Kenya belongs to southern Sudan, Somalia, Uganda and so on. Overlooking this reality, would commit the colonial mistake, that was committed by the colonialists in Berlin Conference 1885. Dividing countries and dumping people into the so called nations without taking to consideration the nature and the background of these people.

Furthermore, the economies of the three EAC countries are of the same nature and therefore they provide no comperative advantages. EA Fed would only be a dumping market for the developed world goodies. And not industrilaized Fed. A wrong start and wrong economic politics caused the death of the white elephant project EAC in 1977. The three countries suffered the stagnant of their economies. If ony you Kenyans, Ugandans and ndugu zangu Watanzania would learn from history and stop this Fed!

Tatu, nadharia ya kuwa dunia imakuwa ndogo "Global Village" kutokan na ukuaji wa teknolojia na soko huria na utandawazi "Globalization" ni ulaghai wa mataifa na mashirika ya kimataifa ya magharibi. Ukweli ni kwamba ufa kati ya nchi za "dunia ya kwanza" na "dunia ya tatu" umepanuka na unaendelea kukua sana: kiuchumi, kisiasa na kijamii. Kuuamini ulaghai huu na kujaribu kuimba au kuunakili bila ya kuuchanganua, na kuutumia katika mjadala huu ni ukosefu wa umakini katika kuuangalia maswala ya kimataifa.

Ukweli ni kwamba, wananchi walio wengi wa Afrika ya Mashariki na hasa Tanzania hawapendi Federation! Basi

THE Immigration Department here is investigating two foreigners for allegedly forging affidavits to obtain Tanzanian passports and employment opportunities in the country.

The Regional Immigration Officer, Mr Omar Msellem, named one of the two suspects as Nasra Yussuf Mohamed, who goes by the name Khatra Mohamed Musa.

The genuine Khatra Mohamed Musa was abroad, according to Mr Msellem. He said Nasra was using an affidavit number A 00674400 belonging to Khatra, who is currently married in Sweden.

He named the second person as Zulekha Yussuf, an employee of a mining firm operating within Geita Gold Mine (GGM), with the fake affidavit number A 00182193, indicating that she was born on May 18, 1978 at Sekou Toure Regional Hospital, here.

Investigation, according to Mr Msellem, revealed that her genuine birthplace was Migori in Kenya. His department has already seized the two passports, as it awaits further instructions from Dar es Salaam, he said.

Mr Msellem said three relatives of the workers believed to be Kenyans, had also been living in the country illegally. He named the three relatives as one Hussein and one Hassan, living in Mwanza City, and one Halima, allegedly working with CAT in Dar es Salaam.
