There is an uproar among the DRCongo army circles after President Félix Tshisekedi appointed, on Monday, October 17, a general who died several years ago.

The late General Floribert Kisembo Bahemuka was the commander of the FARDC operational zone in Lubutu, Maniema and was shot dead on April 30, 2011 by govervenment forces in Lonyo village, Djugu.

The army said he had deserted for two weeks and was in the process of forming a new rebellion in Djugu, in Orientale Province.

General Floribert Kisembo was also a former commander in the UPC militia, under warlord Thomas Lubanga.

Surprisingly, on Monday evening, the late Gen Bahemuka’s name was read among those appointed by the commander in chief as the new operational commander of North Equateur.

Tshisekedi also named another reformed former army deserter Gen. John Tshibangu as commander off 21st military region in the new appointments.

Gen Tshibangu In 2011 deserted the army to lead a rebellion against the Kabila regime after vote rigging claims from Kasai Oriental region.

Tshibangu was in support of the late Étienne Tshisekedi who is the father of Felix Tshisekedi.

He later sought for refugee in Tanzania before he was extradited to Kinshasa to face charges of desertion and leading rebellion against the Kabila regime.
