PROJECT WORK in our schools
AIM
Project Work is a learning experience which aims to provide students with the opportunity to synthesize knowledge from various areas of learning, and critically and creatively apply it to real life situations. This process, which enhances students’ knowledge and enables them to acquire skills like collaboration, communication and independent learning, prepares them for lifelong learning and the challenges ahead.
Project Work LEARNING OUTCOMES
The learning outcomes identify the key areas of learning of the subject. Four learning outcomes are separately articulated: knowledge application, communication, collaboration and independent learning. While students learn to work in groups, they will also learn independently through self-reflection and evaluation of their own work processes. These learning outcomes exist in dynamic interplay rather than as compartmentalized and distinct categories.
The following are the learning outcomes for project work:
Knowledge Application
Students will acquire the ability to make links across different areas of knowledge and to generate, develop and evaluate ideas and information so as to apply these skills to the project task.(Problem solving Focused)
Communication
Students will acquire the skills to communicate effectively and to present ideas clearly and coherently to specific audience in both the written and oral forms.
Collaboration
Students will acquire collaborative skills through working in a team to achieve common goals.
Independent Learning
Students will be able to learn on their own, reflect on their learning and take appropriate actions to improve it.
MY TAKE:
PROJECT work due to its importance, is part of the continuous assessment for students of both ordinary level secondary schools and advanced level secondary school which are two levels of education of great importance in our education system. These are two levels at which one determines his or her abilities in decision making, attempting to identify problems in their respective communities and giving solutions through project work.
I would like to advise the decision makers or/any party involved in advising the higher Authorities especially in appointing say, Body Chairpersons, DC’S, Municipal Directors just to mention a few, should call upon candidate’s O-level and A-level project work as part of their CV’s masters degrees are sufficient to show someones competences but project work will evaluate on how someone was molded and directed in critical thinking and problem solving oriented. This will help easy functions of the bodies in question as we will get potential people to serve the society, on the other hand this will arouse students to get involved in project work at early age at the end our elite people becomes problem solving oriented rather than what we can see today. We have vivid examples of funny experiences from the appointees
