I have mixed feelings on the fact that the CITES has refused to allow Tanzania to sell stockpiles of ivory, saying that the source of the stockpiles is unknown. On one hand I feel bad whenever Tanzania fails to do anything, on the other hand, I feel Ok because I do not know how the proceeds of the sale would have been used. The official use was to strengthen conservation policies and practices, but because I know our leaders, I am kind of skeptical as to whether to monies would have been directed to that end. Especially this being an election year. Oh the application to uplift the ban on hunting Elephants was also denied to both Tanzania and Zambia.
