IOS Feature Sets…

• ipbase = Classic IP Data + Trunking and DSL
• ipvoice = Adds Voice to Data (VoIP & VoFR)
• spservices = Adds SP Services to Voice & Data (SSH/SSL, ATM, VoATM, MPLS, etc)
• entbase = Adds multiprotocol services to Data (L3 routed protocols)
• entservices = Enterprise Base and SP Services
• advsecurity = Add Sec/VPN to Data (IOS FW, IPS/IDS, NAC, SSH/SSL, IPSec, etc.)

• f = The image runs from Flash memory
• m = The image runs from RAM
• r = The image runs from ROM
• l = The image runs relocatable
• z = The image is zip compressed
• x = The image is mzip compressed


Deployment Versions…
ED = Early Deployment (Offers new feature, platform, or interface support)
MD = Maintenance Deployment
LD = Limited Deployment (period between first shipment and GD)
GD = General Deployment (Suitable for deployment anywhere in customer networks)
DF = Deferred (known defects, not avail for download, should not be loaded on your router)

A.B = the major release i.e. 12.3 or 12.4
(C) = the maintenance version, higher number means more bug fixes, any bug fix from a previous version is included in the next version
D = if present means it’s not a major release but an extension of one. Usually provide new features and hardware support.
