The basic principal of survival is adaptation. What do you have to adapt to? Change? Can you avoid change? If you ask anyone they will tell you change is constant. The reason we humans have survived up to this point is that we have been able to adapt to change, changes in ourr environment, changes in our biology and changes in our lives.

So it is clear that if you are not ready to adapt to change then your chances of survival are greatly reduced. So why is it that, inspite of all the clear signs some if not most of our politicians refuse to adapt to the changes in the political and social environment? The scenery in which they thrived in which was fear, ignorance and lack of political will has turned into courage, knowledge and a willingness to challenge the establishment. So why is it that these politicians feel they can use the same technics and continue to thrive? Well I can hypothesis a number of reasons:

    1. Denial: Non of them wants to admit to themselves that the climate is changing. They want to believe that the current waves of change are just simply changes in the weather but the climate they are accustomed to is still in tact.

    2. Unable to change: Some of them might be willing to change but they don't know how.

    3. "Enjoy it while it lasts": Others know things are changing but have decided to enjoy as much as they can the environment they are used to while it last. Those in this group are hoping that they won't live to see the day that these changes are in full effect.

    4. Stupidity: Others are just stupid. They know change is coming, they can change but they choose not to. These are the ones that surprise me the most.

    4. "Conservatives": There are those who are just simply accustomed to the status quo that they lack the vision to imagine anything else. You would thing that this group consists of only the older politicians but you would be surprised how many of the young guys are in this group. The young guys are either children of the older generation or simply think that being yes men to the older generation is the way up.

The good thing about change is that it does not wait for anyone. It has its own schedule and works in its own time on its own terms.
