Cabinet has approved the appointment of a new Governing Board for the National Building Review Board (NBRB), a key institution mandated to regulate and coordinate building control activities across Uganda.

The decision was reached during the Second Cabinet Meeting of 2026 held at State House, Entebbe, and announced by the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Justine Kasule Lumumba. The appointments were made under the Building Control Act, which established the Board to oversee building standards, enforce compliance and promote safety in the construction sector.
Eng. Andrew Kitaka has been appointed Chairperson of the Board. Other members are RSU Irene Kitara, Arch. Henry Kigundu, PP Irene Achola, Benon Yiga, Eng. Chris Opuch, Richard Adrole and Eng. Betty Nabbosa.
Government said the Board will play a critical role in ensuring buildings across Uganda comply with approved standards and safety requirements. It is also expected to strengthen oversight of the construction industry, improve enforcement of building regulations and reduce cases of unsafe structures.
The National Building Review Board is responsible for reviewing building control policies, coordinating local building committees, advising government on construction standards and ensuring that all building projects comply with the country's legal and technical requirements.
The appointment of the new Board comes as Uganda continues implementing reforms aimed at improving building safety, enhancing professional accountability and preventing building collapses that have claimed lives and destroyed property in recent years.
