Most of you are aware that LATRA issued a Tariff Notice Order No. LATRA/01/2022 on 14th March 2022.

Despite the unfavourable impact of the tariff and commission cap directives on ride-hailing companies, Bolt has continued offering ride-hailing services to demonstrate goodwill and to allow due time for an amicable resolution.

Bolt and LATRA have had numerous meetings and formal correspondences aimed to resolve the restrictive regulatory environment. Unfortunately, the engagements have taken longer than expected and longer than promised hence exerting undue pressure on the sustainability of Bolt’s operations in Tanzania.

The purpose of this notice is to inform you, as our primary stakeholders, that Bolt will be undertaking operational changes effective 17th August 2022. These could include making the car categories unavailable to cash-paying retail passengers, and available only to corporate passengers. Regrettably, these changes may affect the number of trips you receive per day which may in turn adversely impact your earnings.

However, Bolt has no choice but to mitigate against the losses in the market until we see a considerable improvement in the regulatory ecosystem. Specifically, Bolt aspires for regulations that create a win-win-win situation among drivers, passengers, ride-hailing operators, and regulators.

We hope these challenges will be addressed so that you continue making strong earnings on our platform.
