Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara has questioned the cost of a kitchen structure built at Kigwera Health Centre III in Buliisa District, reportedly constructed at UGX 38 million.
The structure was flagged during an anti-corruption monitoring tour in the district, where concerns were raised over the cost of public infrastructure compared to the work delivered.
A walkway at the same health facility was also reportedly constructed at UGX 56 million, raising further questions about the use of public funds.
During a community baraza, Barugahara raised concerns about alleged inflated contract costs and claims that some local government department heads were awarding contracts to themselves.
The concerns have renewed questions about accountability in public procurement and whether taxpayers are receiving value for money from government-funded projects.
