A balcony is a platform projecting from the wall of a building, typically above the ground floor, enclosed by a railing or balustrade. Balconies provide outdoor space for occupants and enhancethe aesthetics of the building.
Types of Balconies:
1. Cantilever Balcony:
Supported only at one end by a beam or slab projecting from the wall.
No visible supporting columns beneath.
Common in modern architecture.
2. Hung Balcony:
Supported by steel cables or rods anchored to the building.
Gives a floating appearance.
3. Stacked Balcony:
Supported by vertical posts/columns directly from the ground or lower floor.
Found in apartment complexes.
4. Juliet Balcony:
Very small or no platform; railing placed directly outside a window/door.
Mostly aesthetic and safety function.
5. Mezzanine Balcony:
Located inside a building, overlooking a lower interior space.
Common in theaters, malls, and auditoriums.
6. Loggia:
A covered exterior gallery or corridor with an outer wall open to the air.
Often supported by columns or arches.
7. Faux Balcony:
Decorative only; no platform to stand on.
Adds architectural style to the façade.
