He suffered from a serious car accident when he was just two years old. He was rushed to hospital and required 100 stitches after the crash in his hometown of Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. It is reported that Ribery wasn't wearing a seatbelt, which sent him crashing through the vehicle's windshield.
