African Satellite World and Sat Gear

Hahaha mayne!! The challenges one goes through to quench satellite thirst?? Pole bana. Funny thing with shops in luthuli is that they stock everything. You want a 5 meter offset dish, they tell you iko. A 65 port diseq switch? Simama hapa nikuletee kwa store!!

12525 H 27500 at 68.5 East currently fta. Enjoy while it last.

My road trip starts midnight tonight. Nairobi here i come.

I sent someone to all them shops(a seasoned Nairobian but with zero clue as to what satellite tv is),gave him a list(from this forum) of all the shops i wanted him to check for. i wanted a 0.1dB lnb and an HD decoder with a blind scan feature etc. even gave him models in the list. What a waste of time and money. the sales people had either never heard of the stuff he spoke of or "hizo siku hizi hazikuji. nunua hii. ni the same tu".
i went myself and the story was the same. But i made a point of asking to look at several lnb's from the stashes on the shelves. they were not amused at all. i gave up on the stb and bought this astrovox from the said on-line poster/vendor!
It is painful buying from people who do not even know what they are selling.

I too have the T-888 silver, from waaaay back., It is a brilliant little thing. i use it as my signal/sat finder/tracker. the bing bing bing sound is a very very good friend of mine:majani7: The good thing about this mpeg2 thing is that it also detects mpeg4 sgnals. it just does not know what to to with them:alien: It just bings and bings and bings till you shut it up:A S-confused1:. but then you know you got something there. For it, it is garbage in garbage out😛uke: i quickly unplug it and plug in the HD stb and tweak.

I once chanced on the official technosat site where they spoke of a nairobi distro.. if i find it again i will post it here.

I feel you. I had the same experience trying to buy a chassis mount f-type connector. They all came up with the regular male part

Kevin brother I am just wondering, is it a mistake or you mean you have a 1.95cm dish?

That's Nairobi for you, and sadly, the rest of Kenya too. Most people are in business not because that's what they wanted to do but because they lacked something else to do. For most, business was nowhere near their career choices and as a result most don't bother to know their products or their line of business fully. You end up being, as the customer, the one educating them on their products and services (anyone who has ever dealt with orange customer care here must surely know what I'm talking about 🙂)

The trick here is for you as an fta enthusiast is to thoroughly do your research and walk into the shop confidently knowing what you want and accept no less. So many times I've been called by pals saying eti niko hapa kwa hii duka na wanasema hawana ile decoder nilikuwa nataka but kuna ingine wananiambia pia ni poa, and when you ask the name you realize it's one of those substandard things with no support nd names you've never heard of.

Always know that these guys are, first and foremost, businessmen. Stock lying on the shelves haiwasaidii and they'll do anything, including lying, to have you take it away at their price. Realize that for that very reason, they do not really have your best interests. Only you have your interests at heart. It's a jungle out there and you are, literally, on your own. Hopefully we shall have equipped you here on this thread with the skills you need to fearlessly and safely navigate the minefield that the open market is. But I digress. Back to FTA.

Well said my brother. Go out knowing what you want and do not settle for anything less .my Fta family !
