I am a proud
naturalized American
citizen who came to
the United States with
$400 and worked for
my entire education, from high school to
graduate school. I
have benefited from
the generosity of
many Americans who
helped me along the way. As part of my
commitment to give
back to this great
country, I became a
volunteer at a
nonprofit to support veterans and
servicemembers. Since
the group's founding,
we have sourced,
packed, and mailed
close to 150 tons of care packages to our
troops in Iraq and
Afghanistan. We have
many Vietnam
veterans in our group
who are leading the way. We have an obligation
to our returning
veterans, especially
the severely
wounded warriors.
We must not lose sight of this obligation to
our men and women
who sacrificed their
lives to defend our
freedom. I hope all Americans
will pledge a lifelong
commitment to
looking after our
veterans from Iraq
and every war. Let’s not play partisan
politics in Washington
when it comes to our
country’s obligations
to our veterans,
especially to the severely wounded.
We may lead busy
lives, but please
remember that their
injuries and needs will
be lifelong. We can not let them and their
families down. As
veterans come home,
our true responsibility
is just beginning. I sincerely hope
President Obama will
lead the country, and
Congress, in making a
commitment to
support the severely wounded for life.
Maybe with the
realization of this
lifelong responsibility,
it will make our
leaders think twice before we are led into
another war and
place our men and
women in uniform in
harm’s way. God bless our soldiers.
God bless their
families. God Bless
America.
