    Ngeleja: Hoja si kujiuzulu

    Imeandikwa na Lucy Lyatuu;
    Tarehe: 8th December 2010

Wajameni, i'm getting so disappointed when i read the international news and see Tanzania is facing power rationing as a result of serious power shortages while i am aware of numerous energy resources the land is endowed with! From geothermal to windpower to solarpower to natural gas to coal to hydropower to nuclear power to ocean current power you name it; Tanzania has them all! But, what is the problem then?

As things seem, the whole reason behind the imminent power cuts, emanates from the lack of that acute but compassionate sense of urgency and will upon
individuals bestowed with that sensitive responsibility to provide reliable power, a vital component to stir up country`s economic growth. While our President keeps yapping of his efforts to give the country an upper hand on business environment in the region, his efforts get wasted since five years down the line nothing has been done to improve energy availability situation. Interestingly, this comes after the president and his unusual entourage spent huge amount of money to undertake business trips abroad in the name of promoting investments while knowing in advance simple things like power supply remain a nightmare on the ground. As a matter of fact to salt-en the unhealed wound; an 18% hike on cost per unit of electricity has been slapped on the face of the poor Tanzanians and those manufacturers the government has just managed to attract. More provoking, all this is happening 2 months down the election pledges HE JK strongly campaigned for...!?

Though our minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hon. Ngeleja believes has a strong case to make and excuse himself from the shambles of the current energy woos (i.e. the Pan African energy's gas wells not being able to supply enough gas to run the machines and produce the legally assigned
180 MW of electricity contracted by TANESCO); his rhetoric demonstrates of a man that has lost focus and lacks capability to rescue this nation from further economic deterioration the country is to suffer. If at all the legal procedures are observed, the pan African Energy has to be charged with sabotaging the economy by not providing the legally bound energy quota as stated in the contract, but lack of true leadership at the ministry in-charged continues to pile up tolls on lives of normal people!

This ministry that to-date lacks clear policies and
execution of plans to turn things around and provide permanent solutions on energy availability, needs nothing more than its top leaders' resignation for failing the Tanzanians while daring a nation with a 'lip-service' on promises that by "2013" energy shortages will be a history as if we have never heard of that before. It's high time now that HE Kikwete stops awarding the cabinet positions to incompetent individuals that have shown failure in his last government, if at all the interests of this country are the main agenda of his Government in power.

    The perplexing and inexcusable
repetitive explanations on the failures to deliver at ones duties need not be tolerated anymore by the Commander in chief considering the economic harmful ways the country is exposed to e.g. the current situation rises production costs (for Tanzania often "irreversibly") that trigger a multiplicative series of market responses that cummulatively yield to an overhead inflation on consumer price that devalues our currency and leads to a rise in general cost of living affecting every citizen. When one looks at the Performance check list, its obvious Hon. Ngeleja does not fit at the current job that entails high work ethics while directly influences the competitiveness of country's economy. Therefore as my opinion; experienced, hard worker and God fearing individuals with integrity and track records should be given that ministry portfolio if at all things are to change i.e. the current top three plus the commissioners should be sent home!

Heri ya Noeli na mwaka Mpya gizani!

You have said it all. Tuna matatizo ya uongozi kwenye nchi yetu. Mitambo kuharibika, maintenance or whatever ni mambo ya kawaida lakini serikali ilipashwa kuhakikisha kwamba kuna back up arrangements in case one of the power supplies inakwama kufanya kazi ama kwa sababu moja au nyingine, back up inafanya kazi na kuzalisha umeme. Serikali haiwezi kukwepa lawama kwa uzembe wa kutokuwa na back up.

Halafu eti tunaita wawekezaji!!!! Shame on us.

Your questiona is very very fun! I can read your mind!

JK once was in the same ministry he did NOTHING! Kikwete huyu

Asking if Ngeleja is right man is ignoring the fact that even Kikwete is not right at all at all!! having some who seem good ministers does not nullify the fact that Kikwete is bogus and we are having good ones by chance!

As things stands now in Tanzania, it is Extremly difficult to know if there is anyone who is fit enough to hold the position is occupying. That this is so is due to the fact that, currently the government seem to be pre-occupied mainly by two things; first self-aggrendizement on the part of those in power, and secondly, to put in place the neccessary safeguards to ensure that the right person succeeds JK, come 2015. Apart from these, everything else seem to be of no consequence.
