Niliuliza swali Vodacom ni mali ya nani? Mkuu Mtsimbe akanipa jibu hili na maelezo mengine kuhusu Vodacom Foundation.

Bado tu mnashangaa kuhusu Vodafone or whatever you call it, kuja na 'utapeli' wa aina hiyo? Jina la huyo Bwana mkubwa wakati wote linaendana na hujuma ya aina fulani!

Kawaida ili Foundation iweze kuwa na haki ya kukusanya fedha kutoka kwa wananchi(Public fundraising) ni lazima isiwe na profit motive, otherwise kinachofanyika kwa Vodacom Tanzania ni "Corporate social responsibility" na amount ambayo inatolewa kutoka katika faida ya Kampuni huwa ni "tax exempted", sasa kuwakubalia hawa kuchangisha fedha kutoka kwa wananchi ni kuhalalisha wao kuja kuclaim Tax exemption from the amount which is not coming from their profit, Hivyo basi serikali itakuwa imekosa mapato yake na huku Vodacom nao watakuwa wanasamehewa kodi kwenye fadha ambazo wamezikusanya toka kwa jamii hiyo hiyo ambayo ndiyo inapaswa kusaidiwa na kampuni ili kampuni inufaike na msamaha wa kodi.

Kitu kingine ni kwamba Vodacom kama mtoa huduma ya simu alitakiwa kuwa pembeni ili kuacha third party na customers wake waweze kuingia mkataba. Je kwa mfano mteja akituma sms kwenye namba hiyo kwa malengo ya kupata huduma ya customer service akakutwa amekatwa wao Vodacom wataweza kurudiha pesa?.

Ushauri wangu ni kuwa Ofisi ya makamu wa Rais ambayo inasimamia NGOs kutokana na NGO Act 2002 na tume ya mawasiliano wanatakiwa kuwaambia Vodacom kuwa hawana haki na hawatakiwi kukusanya michango toka kwa wananchi kwa niaba yao bali wanaweza fanya hivyo kama wanafanya kwa niaba ya third party ambaye ni lazima iwe Not for Profit (eg NGOs na Charities)

Mimi kama wachangiaji wengine walivyosema ingekuwa vema hawa vodacom wangehusisha chama cha msalaba mwekundu kwani hao ndiyo kimbilio patokeapo majanga na si Red alert. Kwani hii terminology hakuna anayeijua hivyo hata haitaweza kukumbukwa kirahisi. Hivyo kumchesha kidogo si kuchemsha maisha hivyo vodacom please tumieni RED CROSS ili michango iwafikie walengwa hasa.
 
Vodafone Red Alert to assist disaster victims launched

Vodacom Tanzania on Sunday 24th January 2010 launched Vodafone Red Alert to appeal for contributions to assist victims of natural disasters in the country.

The campaign was launched by Vodacom Tanzania Managing Director, Mr Dietlof Mare in Dar es Salaam in the presence of Vodacom Foundation's own Voda Heroes who colored the event.

RED ALERT allows Vodacom subscribers to contribute in efforts to assist victims of recent natural disasters in the country whereas four regions have been hard hit by heavy rains and winds since November 2009.

With RED ALERT Vodacom subscribers can send an SMS with the words REDALERT or MAAFA to 15599 and they will be charged 250/- from their airtime (VAT inclusive).

Subscribers may send as many SMS as they wish there are no restrictions. The campaign will run for a period of one week beginning January 24 to February 1 this year.

Mr Mare said the success of Vodafone Red Alert lies in the hands of Vodacom subscribers.

"It a vehicle driven by Vodacom but can only be made possible by subscribers. There are many people out there who want to contribute when such disasters occur but do not know how and this is an opportunity to make a difference", he said.

He lauded the media for their constant effort to keep the Tanzania people informed when such catastrophes occur. He went on to extend his appreciation to a number of media house who were deeply moved and readily accepted to support this campaign.

He mentioned the media partners to this campaign as Clouds FM, Choice FM, Jambo Magazine and The Guardian & Nipashe. Others are Africa Media Group – Channel 10 & Magic FM- and New Habari Corporation, publishers of Mtanzania, The African, Rai, Dimba and Bingwa.

The Director of the Disaster Management Department in the Prime Minister's Office, Maj. General (rtd) Bakari Shabani, commended Vodacom for launching the campaign and appealed to Tanzanians to contribute towards the noble cause.
When disasters occur, he said, people affected should first strive to help themselves before outside assistance arrives thus RED ALERT is a good example of a self-help initiative.

Vodacom Tanzania Corporate Affairs Managing Executive, Ms Mwamvita Makamba said, "It is our duty to provide the necessary technology to enable Tanzanians to do great things, today we bring technology to assist our fellow countrymen who have been affected by natural disasters or humanitarian crises".

She went on to say that each time disaster strikes Vodacom Tanzania will activate the Vodafone Red Alert to enable subscribers to contribute towards relief efforts. Red Alert is a permanent initiative.

And this is purely confusing, in some sense naona kama hii ni marketing strategy. Hawa jamaa theyh need to come out of the woods waelezee watanzania kinagaubaga kwamba they are doing the right thing na kuclear huu utata.

Harambee kuchangia maafa yaendelea

Vodacom Tanzania inapenda kutoa shukrani za dhati kwa wasamaria wema ambao wamechangia harambee ya kusaidia ndugu zetu walioathirika na maafa sehemu mbalimbali nchini ikiwemo kilosa kulikokumbwa na mafuriko makubwa mwaka huu. Inasema asante sana kwa moyo wa uzalendo.

Kwa kuwa tatizo bado lipo, michango hiyo ya harambee ya maafa kupitia kampeni ya 'Vodafone Red Alert' inadelea kila siku na kupokewa ambapo unatuma kwa sms neno 'MAAFA' kwenda namba 15599 nawe utakuwa umechangia bila tatizo. Shime wadau kutoa ni moyo....

Hofsede, kimsingi nakubaliana na wewe lakini hapo kwenye ishu za kodi hapaja kaa sawa.

Kwa jinsi ulivyoiweka nashiwishika kuamini umekusudia kuzunguimzia income tax (kodi ya mapato). Sio kweli kwamba foundations/charitable organisations ni 'tax exempted'. Tax exempted entities/incomes zimeolozeshwa katika jedwali la pili la sheria ya kodi ya mapato ya mwaka 2004 na foundations ama charitable organisation hazimo. Unaweza kusoma kifungu cha 64 cha sheria ya kodi ya mapato (Income Tax Act 2004) uone jinsi zinavyopaswa kulipa kodi.

Kwa ujumla corporate social responsibility inayofanywa na kampuni inatozwa kodi ya mapato(kuna exceptions chache sana nazo pia zina limit). Unaweza kusoma kifungu cha 16 cha sheria ya kodi ya mapato (Income Tax Act 2004) uone vitu ambavyo vinaweza kusamehewa kodi.

Inawezekana kuna tatizo kwenye hii Read Alert, lakini sioni ni vipi Vodacom au hata kampuni nyingine inaweza kufaidika interms of income tax.
