Durban - The spotlight has once again fallen on President Jacob Zumas second wife Nompumelelo Ntuli-Zuma (MaNtuli) following the arrest of a Tanzanian man on charges of blackmail.
According to the Sunday Independent, Stephen Ongolo was arrested on Friday in Durban after having contacted local newspapers. He stated that he had received payments from the first lady over a three-year period amounting to about R200 000.
According to the report, Ongolo claimed to know all MaNtulis secrets particularly those centred around her close friendship with her bodyguard Phinda Thomo who reportedly committed suicide in 2009.
However, Ongolo denies having blackmailed her and says she hired him to secure mining rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In an email sent to the newspaper, Ongolo also spells out the details of an alleged plot to kill Thomo. He claims Thomo was murdered.
At the time of the bodyguards death, newspapers reported that Thomo had killed himself after learning that a Zulu newspaper was working on a story about an alleged affair between him and the first lady who later became pregnant.
MaNtuli has meanwhile not escaped the spotlight. Four years ago she narrowly missed eviction following a dispute between her and her wealthy benefactors who were bankrolling her at the time. Later, she was branded the madam from hell, after allegations surfaced of how she mistreated and abused her domestic workers.
Past indiscretions also saw her banished from Nkandla for a while after it emerged that she had committed adultery with another man.
