Zimbabwe is among the intended beneficiaries of a proposed 1,700km regional fuel pipeline network launched by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote in Namibia.
The US$2.5 billion project, unveiled in Walvis Bay on 4 November, includes a 600-million-litre fuel storage facility and a distribution network expected to serve Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The infrastructure is expected to improve regional fuel distribution and reduce logistical costs, with completion projected within 18–20 months.
However, the final pipeline route and regulatory approvals are still pending.
If implemented, the project could provide Zimbabwe with an additional fuel supply route through Namibia, potentially diversifying its sources of petroleum products.
