If Rwanda and Burundi ceased war and hostilities, I don't see why south Sudan won't. And remember even at her waring state, south Sudan still imported and exported more than Rwanda, hence why Uganda decided to prioritize a rail to them over Rwanda. That in addition to North eastern DRC means Kenya's sgr will have significantly more transit cargo including our very own cargo which is the bulk and main reason for it, returns will be higher.

In tanga you guys are building an oil terminal port, nothing to worry mombasa. Bagamoyo is far far off and with the current upgrades in mombasa to average world efficiency levels aided with linking infrastructure to the hinter land, bagamoyo will have a tough time. Then there's lamu and lapset, a port and corridor with its own niche in the region, no direct competition unless Somalia wakes up which I hope it does.
 
Uganda is fed up with Kenya! FYI when the rail line to Arusha is extended to Mara region the distance Kampala-Tanga will be shorter than Kampala-Mombasa and Juba-Tanga will be equal to Juba-Mombasa. And Ugannda is building an inland port at Bukasa to serve her cargo and that of South Sudan already through funds from Commerz Bank of Germany! U will be a fool to think Tanga port will only host fuel from Uganda read here ! Keep on claiming other people's land and u will learn a lesson of being bully soon. Tanzania gets China loan to build regional railway link

DAR ES SALAAM — Tanzania has secured a $7.6bn loan from China’s Export-Import Bank to build a railway line that will link it to its neighbours, President John Magufuli’s office says.

Tanzania wants to profit from its long coastline and upgrade railways and roads to serve growing economies in the landlocked heart of Africa.

Magufuli’s office said the Export-Import Bank had agreed to provide the concessional loan to finance construction of a major standard-gauge railway line, work on which would start in this financial year.

The announcement follows talks between Magufuli’s government and the bank’s president, Liu Liange, in Tanzania’s administrative capital Dodoma on Wednesday.

"The planned standard-gauge railway line will improve regional trade links and help to boost the economies of Tanzania and its landlocked neighbours including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo," the president’s office said.

Natural gas discoveries in Tanzania and oil finds in Kenya and Uganda have turned East Africa into an exploration hotspot for oil firms but transport infrastructure in those countries has suffered from decades of neglect and underinvestment.

Tanzania said in 2015 it had awarded contracts to Chinese firms to build new railway lines, expanding Beijing’s presence in East Africa.

In 2014 it signed an agreement with China Merchant Holding International to build a mega port and economic zone at Bagamoyo that is expected to cost $10bn.

China’s Export-Import Bank is also financing a $1.2bn, 532km natural gas pipeline in Tanzania.

Tanzania’s finance and planning ministry said in a separate statement on Wednesday the country had secured a $200m loan from the African Development Bank to finance transport infrastructure projects.

Uganda is fed up with Kenya, really, I tend to wonder where you unearth some of these assertions from. And the line from Arusha, after it gets to the mara, where does it go next?

Then if you go by flight, tanga to Kampala is 939km compared to mombasa's 925 km as the crow flies. If you go by car via Arusha, it's 1573.75km while from mombasa ni 1152.15km. So don't kid yourself of a shorter tanga-Kampala route compared to mombasa-kampala keeping in mind that rail tends to be even longer than roads so as to adjust for steep gradient. Halafu what is being built in tanga is an OIL terminal. Anything else is a suggestion to possibly diversify it in future.
 
Then if they r not, then why incurring a cost to construct a port at Bukasa while Tanzania does the same at Musoma Mjini (Mara region)? U have to take the straight trajectory across the Lake Victoria and across the Serengeti! The Mara river will be crossed using a bridge!! Cargo will be ferried across the two points Musoma to Kampala for Uganda goods and Musoma to Bukasa for South Sudan goods! Keep dreaming ati Uganda is a market reserved for Kenya while Uganda (and South Sudan) are busy preparing themselves to use Tanga port...U will be left with Somalia as a market for Kenya!

Ask yourself why is kenya building not only the largest inland port in kisumu but also a dual Carriage ring road around the entire Kenyan side of L. Victoria. The reason is because the L. Victoria basin nations are increasing trade with each other to better utilize this large water body, hence the similar action from Uganda and Tanzania. Hahaha the good thing is in the next five we will be sharing that Ugandan and South Sudan market 50/50 while enjoying Rwanda, Burundi and DRC markets alone with Bagamoyo port in place! Keep arguing i will tag as usual when funds secured for Bagamoyo port as well!
 
50/50 with ug and on the other hand Rwanda, Burundi and DRC alone? Hahaha, pigs might actually fly. Goods en-route to Northern Tanzania are passing via Kenya's Mombasa port, clinch that portion first before you extend your boldness to transit goods from other nations. 5yrs from now as you say, I pray for my health and yours, we'll see just what the reality will be.

You'd like Kenyan media to cover Tanzanian news? Your media houses never did the same with our SGR from the time we clinched the funding to now when we're almost done with phase one.
 
By October this year, Uganda will have closed the financing agreement for the construction of the first phase - Malaba to Kampala - of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), an official has revealed.

Eng Kasingye Kyamugambi, the SGR project coordinator said the government has prioritised the 273Kms Malaba – Kampala route, which is expected to cost $2.3 billion (Shs7.6 trillion).

“By the end of the 2016/17 financial year, we expect to have started construction. The expectation is that we shall have financial closure with China’s EXIM Bank by the end of October 2016,” Mr Kyamugambi told reporters last week.

Financial closure is defined as the process of completing all project-related financial transactions, finalising and closing the project financial accounts, disposing of project assets and releasing the work site.

“What is key was that we had to agree on a route with the contractor. Of course, Kenya had started before we could agree on the route with the contractor. There was also need for us to harmonise standards for the project. We are not lagging behind. As Kenya starts the Nairobi – Malaba route, we shall also be starting on the Malaba-Kampala route,” he adds.
