About Wilfred
Kilimanjaro mountain guide Wilfred Moshi will attempt to become the first Tanzanian to climb the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest this weekend. Wilfred, as a guide has been climbing Mount Kilimanjaro since 1999. Wilfred believes that the climb will "show Tanzanians that we can all strive to achieve our own goals by hard work and a passion for what we do. Being one of the few Africans and the first Tanzanian to climb Mount Everest would be a major achievement for our country since it would prove that with hard work we can conquer such a challenge. This would empower Tanzanians to know that they can also succeed!"
As well as undertaking the climb as a personal ambition, he is also undertaking the climb for the Twende Pamoja Trust. Wilfred is a Tanzanian, of the Chagga tribe based in Moshi He is married with two children. He began his guiding career in 1999 as a porter, and within few months underwent the KINAPA guide-training course and became a certified mountain guide. He began as an assistant guide, and because of his language and natural leadership skills, he became a head guide in 2002. He has subsequently established his own company Kili-Treks. He has climbed the mountain over 80 times.
Wilfred is a certified KINAPA (Kilimanjaro Tanzania National Park) guide and holds a NOLS certification as a 'Wilderness First-Responder' (WFR) and 'Heart Saver CPR'.
